93 Sep 22 Reply Roger that...thank you, Mark! Sep 23rd
93 Sep 22 Reply Thank you, Ed! I'm definitely going to try that. Sep 23rd
93 Sep 22 Reply Thank you, Dawn! I can't remember why I chose this crop, but I definitely want to play around with it more and try removing that tree on the right. I actually just noticed the one on the left has a similar angle to the sign. I think maybe I was thinking about framing it and giving more depth? Thanks for the feedback! You've encouraged me to go back and fool around with it more. Sep 23rd
93 Sep 22 Reply Neil, you're so right; now that I look at it here, I definitely want to give it more contrast! Thank you! Sep 23rd
93 Sep 22 Reply Mark, thank you for the feedback! And I've used that red touch in some other photos for effect--it's a cool touch that adds to the spookiness of the sign. These signs are usually in "busy" places and there's so much distraction. It's hard to decide how much to remove sometimes and I kept this one to a minimum; I feel like sometimes removing too much makes it seems "artificial." Sep 23rd
93 Sep 22 Comment Amazing clouds! I've never seen anything like it and agree with keeping that one! There's so much movement, my first thought was a big brushstroke moving right and left across the sky. But it does appear to be pulling to the right. Really cool shot, just beautiful! Sep 23rd
93 Sep 22 Comment He is perfect! The flag coming out of his head is in a weird spot; I wish I could move it around a bit...especially next to his helmet (although that makes me think of the "battlefield cross"). Would a wider aperture have eliminated background distractions and put more focus on him? I'm not sure it would've made this better. It's wonderful! Side note: was that a Wyland mural on the side of the building in the background? Sep 23rd
93 Sep 22 Comment I really love this shot. I do want to see the terns closer, so I like Mark's edit, but then you lose the drama of the sky and the tree. I see a gradation of soft blue-gray sky down to a fiery sun at the horizon. Contrasted, the fuller leaves closer to the Earth ascend to the sparse, dying branches. I'm not as spiritual as I could be, but the tree looks like a cross and there's a message somewhere in there. Technically, it's hard for me to see the detail on the terns, but I love it--it really speaks to me. And it's one of those photos that you could probably pull another four or five photos from it! Thank you! Sep 23rd
93 Sep 22 Comment What a sky! And a great education on this location and phenomenon! My first thought after opening the photo was how you captured perfect complementary colors in this art photo. Really unique and gorgeous! Sep 23rd
93 Sep 22 Comment The light on the bridge is just beautiful! I feel like I also want the lower part of the photograph brightened up a little, but you might want to hide distractions. It would be cool to see a radial gradient exposure brightening at either end of the bridge to pull the eye to the beginning or end. Sep 23rd
93 Sep 22 Comment WOW! What an incredible capture of such an interesting location and with such a fantastic sky. What you did with the sky is gorgeous and the additional light looks very natural. It is such an enormous view; I can't imagine where you'd have to position yourself to capture it all! Bravo!
So, I'm curious what you mean by the aperture sweet spot at f14. I'm used to hearing about that on zoom lenses with the focal length. And for you and the group, do you all mostly abide by this f8/f11 standard for landscapes? Thank you!!!
