Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
40 Aug 25 Reply Hey Catherine. I understand your comment. The thing that makes this image so difficult is the the street is on a hill and the building is straight, so , the bottom is not straight. It kind of is an optical illusion. I have just purchased a new "Shift" lens that lets you shift the lens and the perspective is improved. I have not really tried it in the field, but I hope this will help. I feel like I am close, but not there. Thanks for your comment. Aug 26th
40 Aug 25 Comment Hey Catherine, I like your image. I agree with Janice on the crop. I also added some clarity and the water looked... Wetter. It is fine in color. Nice shot. Aug 17th
40 Aug 25 Comment Hey Ling Ling, nice image. It is sort of a "Circle of Life" shot. I agree with Janice, some Vignetting would help. I also used a brush mask in Photoshop and darkened the face and parts of the "Cat". I added Texture and Clarity and the grass seemed to separate from the Cat. I would love to photograph animals in the wild like Big Cats. Nice image that might benefit with a few very slight changes. You are a very versatile Photographer. Thanks for sharing. Aug 15th
40 Aug 25 Reply Hey Janice, In Photoshop Beta, there is a feature called Generative Expand. You us the crop tool and expand the area around the portion of the image you want to expand and then there is a floating pallet that says Generative Expand. It is beyond Amazing. I shoot a lot of my stuff too tight. This helps. I used it on the lighthouse image last month. It is not perfect, but it is close. Aug 15th
40 Aug 25 Comment Hey Andrew, I like your image. As always, your editing is spot on. It all seems sort of "tight". the castles I have been to (Disneyland) all seemed to have sprawling landscapes and mazes and such. So instead of taking out anything, I added some forground, and some sky, as the cross at the top spire almost got cut off. Also, you image has a "film" quality to it, and is one of those images that the viewer could not determine when the image was captured. Nice job. Also, I know where I am going for adding stuff into someone else's image. Aug 9th
40 Aug 25 Comment Hey Janice, I like your image. I am going to throw out some observations that are my opinion. I am not an expert, although I play one on TV (bad joke). I think I would have left the image in Landscape mode, instead of Portrait mode that you did. I also think the statue on the left is too tight, I might have left the item to the left of it. I also think the sky needs to be cropped down since it is not very interesting. Was it foggy because the background building and overall, it just looks foggy. my last observation is that the couple was okay like they are, but if you stood there long enough, they might have looked at each other. I realize when you are shooting in Paris, you don't want to wait for a couple to do what you want. There also seems to be a halo or some sun reflection on the right side of the woman's hair. It was the first thing I was drawn to. I know that might seem harsh, but I will say, it is the kind of image I would have captured if I was in that area. I only made these comments to help and when I travel, I never have time to set up an image the way I want. I am sorry if this is harsh, I just wanted to help for next time. Aug 9th
40 Aug 25 Comment Hey Julie. I will go first. I like your image. I have some questions. There is a red border on the PSA image. Did you do that. I also do not know what Focus stacking is, and I feel like I should since I spend so much time reading about photography. So I thought at first, the background needed to go, or be enhanced. I put a mask on the background and brought it out. I could have as easily made it really dark. I think your bottom flower did not need to get cut off. The only issue is... I have no idea what the judges are looking for, or what kine of mood they are in when they subjectivly view your image. Then there is that "rule" thing. I know contest are really helpful, but This image is really good and it still might not be what the judge is looking for. I posted my take, and I will look into the focus stacking. I also sharpened your image and added some... Texture and Clarity. Don't give up on the contests. I listen to a free podcast call "The Grid" and they have shows where they show how they would edit photos sent to them, and they have Blind Critiques. Just a thought. Aug 3rd
