16 Feb 24 Comment Hey Walter, I appreciate you letting me visit your group. I like your image but what stopped me when I was looking at thumbnails was the white thing in the background. I also thought your Pelican was a little blown out. I think your settings were fine, but I just did a little Adobe Camera Raw Texture, Clarity, and used the masking tool to bring out some detail. I took out the white thing, and I gave your bird a little seperation from the background. I used Topaz DeNoise AI instead of Sharpen AI. I only use the sharpen AI if the image is out of focus. I wish I had a telephoto lens that would let me photograph birds. Nice shot Walter. Hope I helped. Bye. Feb 19th

17 Feb 24 Comment Hey Sheldon, Nice Image. Just visiting from another group. I thought your background was a little to light and distracting. I used the masking tool in ACR and isolated the background, and the subject separately, and made some adjustments. I sharpened the subject and added a little clarity. Hope you did not mind my suggestion . It is a great shot. Thanks for letting me visit. Feb 19th

25 Feb 24 Reply glad I could help. When I get comment like this, I put it in my workflow for post processing and everytime I edit, I check it. Feb 20th
25 Feb 24 Comment Hey Brian, Just visiting. I hope you don't mind, but in my opinion, and only my opinion, it seemed like your white balance was off just a tad. The background looked a little blue or gray. I also added a little clarity to her face. This is all subjective, but I just wanted to give you a place to play with a slider if you want to be sure. Thanks for letting me visit. It is a very good portrait. Better lighting skills than I will ever have. Feb 19th

26 Feb 24 Reply As a photographer, when I look at a photo of a place I have not been. It is easy to be a Monday Morning Armchair Quarterback. I see how there were a lot of obsticals to overcome. You can't just pull out a bullhorn and tell everyone to leave the area for 5 minutes (that would be so cool). Your shot is very nice. It is too bad you probably have to have a drone to get a decent shot. We all deal with these issues. Thanks for lettng me comment, and thanks for responding. Feb 20th
26 Feb 24 Comment Hey Mervyn. I hope you don't mind me visiting your group. I shoot a fair share of buildings and I liked this one except the aspect just seemed off and because you shot so tight (if this is the original crop) it really can not be fixed with out losing a lot of the image. I also would have liked to see the cross on top. Unless you are on a tour and your time is restricted, I would try a different time (I know you were looking for certain shadows) or maybe a different day. We can not always do that. If I think I am going to do some post geometry editing, I shoot with a lot of space around the building. It is just a suggestion. Your image is very nice, it just seems like a missed opportunity. 27 Feb 24 Comment Hey Danny, I am visiting from another group and today I am the white balance fairy. I love your shot. I have one just like it of San Francisco. My wife went to Sydney and all I got was a t-shirt. I notice, in my opinion, the white balance was off, and yoiu needed some texture and clarity. I also cropped the left side and gave it a little more panoramic feel. The Sydney Opera House now does not feel lost amoung the skyscrapers. Hope you Don't mind my suggestions. At least take a look at the white balance. Thanks for letting me play with your incredible shot from the same latitude south as San Francisco is North. Feb 19th

32 Feb 24 Comment Hey Wes, I am visiting from another group and I am the Texture and Clarit Fairy. I also used Topaz DeNoise AI to bring up the detail on the Zebra (just joking). Nice shot and I am a huge fan of Scott Kelby. I just saw a class where he used the Black and white profiles in Camera Raw to convert color to black and white. Your depth of field is great. Good Pose. 33 Feb 24 Comment Hey Nanette, I am a visitor to your group and your image caught my eye. I shoot mostly architechural photography. Carl beat me to it but I was going to say, most of my shots with trees in them get the same comment: get rid of the tree. Your shot is very much like my last trip to San Francisco to shoot buildings. I love this kind of stuff. Don't be afraid with these kinds of shots to exaggerate your editing. If you use photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw has two sliders I use on all my buildings: Texture and Clarity. The Clarity slider will add water-like refelections to windows. You have a good eye for this. Keep shooting buildings...if you like it. thank you for letting me make some suggestions. Feb 19th

36 Feb 24 Comment Hey Adi, nice image and nice reflections. I like that you got the detail out of the hills in the background. I am pretty sure Ansel Adams took a shot from just about there, but I think there is no bridge in the background, and it was during the day. You are in good company. Also, my son walks his dog most days on the cliffs above where you were standing. I have joined him on several occasions. It is one of the most photogenic places I know of. Feb 19th
36 Feb 24 Comment Hey Arne, nice shot and nice post-edit. Feb 19th

40 Feb 24 Comment Hey Janice. Interesting. I have heard of this but I find it hard to think of intentionally moving my camera. I spent all that money on a tripod. I thought you Could teach an old dog new tricks. How about cropping in a little to increase the abstract value. I am in uncharted water here. You have made me think. Feb 16th
40 Feb 24 Comment Hey Henry, Wow, Nice Shot. I like the subtleness of your image and I like what Julie did making it look more like a painting. I took it a step further in Color Efex plug-in and even though I probably went too far, it looks more like a painting. Your soft background is something I would probably enjoy more if I saw it in a Museum. Feb 16th
40 Feb 24 Comment Hey Julie, Nice. I have been shooting for over 55 years (off and on) and I have never tried this. It does not look easy. is there a way you could get this more even, like does it matter where you stand. I am not sure if I like the color or Black and white more. I guess like Ling Ling, I have only seen this in color. do I need a big zoom? I have a 28-210 and a 19-38. Better at night? Feb 16th
40 Feb 24 Comment Hey Catherine. Nice shot. It has a nice quality. I like the haze. There is still a little more sky that can be brought out. Two things: it looks like you shot this at f11 @ 1/1250 sec sutter speed. The image looks soft in the background and I don't understand why you used such a high sutter speed. I could not tell what your ISO was, but was it sunny? I also used a noise reduction software which seemed to help. if you use Photoshop, Adobe Camera Raw new has a noise reduction build in, or you can buy plug-ins cheap. I would like to have seen Julie's version of your shot. Also, if you have not tried it, Auto ISO is great for controling the shutter speed and aperture. it looks like you are shooting manual anyway. Nice Haze. Feb 16th
40 Feb 24 Comment Hey Andrew, I love Steampunk. My favorite musical group, Rush, did an album "Clockwork Angels" based on Steampunk. Your colors are great, and the image is very sharp. The close up of the faces has a lot more impact then if you were farther back. Usually there are large steam engine type machines at these gatherings and that might be cool to incorporate into the shot. Your post editing is spot on. Thanks Andrew. Feb 11th
40 Feb 24 Comment Hey Ling Ling, Well here are some more powers of post processing. I took out the windows. I agree with you about moving your body/Camera to avoid or add stuff. I like to make my crops and clones in camera, but if not, it's Adob or DXO to the rescue. I think I might have lost sight of what I was going for here, but, if my photography buddy, and two of my PSA family members don't think the tree helped, I will learn from your comments. I feel like George of the Jungle (small tree joke). Feb 11th
40 Feb 24 Comment Hey Julie, When I showed this to my shooting buddy, acutally we are more Tea buddies who talk about Post Editing, He suggested the same exact thing. So here is my idea based on your commets. Do you think it still looks like a building or just a wall. I guess two great photographers (you and my friend) can't be wrong. Feb 7th

64 Feb 24 Reply Hey Stuart, I have shots that I have never got the geometry right. My take on the tones are just kind of my style. Your shot was one of a few that caught my eye as I went through all the almost 100 groups that submitted stuff this month. So, if it caught my eye (and not because I though it was not level), it must be an eye-catcher. When I visited England two years ago, We took a train from London to York and met Andrew and his lovely wife. Andrew has helped my photography quite a bit. Enjoy your visit. Texture and Clarity are my go to sliders, but be careful, you can end up with noise. There is a podcast every Wednesday called "The Grid" where two of my favorite photographers do blind critiques of submitted images. I have learned more about things like white balance and tonal control than I ever thouht I would. Check it out. Feb 20th
64 Feb 24 Comment Hey Stuart, what a nice picture. It really needed some leveling, and I am not sure if I got it, but I also added some texture and clarity and some Topaz DeNoise AI. The clouds and the structure look a little lighter and the puddles look wetter. It's just my take, but I am that guy who likes to straighten pictures at my sister house. Thanks for letting me join in the conversation. Feb 20th

74 Feb 24 Comment Hey Haru, I am, as always, a fan of your color work. I think color or black and white works here, but I think the black and white image is to high-key. It almost looks inferred. The main focus in my opinion is the dark tree, however, I was drawn to the birch trees that seem to be guarding the dark tree. The nice thing about it is the birch trees keep my eye looking back an forth and keep me in the shot. I like the forground and how it leads into the area where the dark tree is. I added some contrast and texture and then applied Topez DeNoise. I know you made the image lighter on purpose, but I felt like I was looking at the image, and not in the forest. Feb 16th

93 Feb 24 Comment Hey Darcy, Hope you don't mind me looking at your photo in photoshop. I have always wanted to go to the Salton Sea and I live near San Francisco, so I guess it is not that far away. I really like the feel of your image. I feel the mood of dusk in an area not know for environmental successes. I wanted to give the image a feel of maybe a sunrise setting. I hope you don't mind me taking a little artistic license. I put your image in Nik Color Efex and gave it sort of a sepia feel. If you did that to my image I would say "that is not what it looked like". It was just too beautiful of a setting not to adjust some of the tones. I hope you don't mind. I really enjoyed exploring what you captured. Your version really shows the despair. I am glad you did not change it to black and white. Thank you again. You have a good eye. Feb 20th

96 Feb 24 Comment Hey Viren, I noticed your image and because I shoot a lot of Cityscapes, I thought I would stop in and give you my take. I love this building. I love it so much that I think you should make it the center of attention. It even has a spotlight pointing at it. so I cropped out some distractions and punched up some of the lights and enhanced the colors and then put a little Topaz DeNoise on it. Here is my take, hope you like it. I was once told, "if something is not helping your picture, then get rid of it". Thanks again and you have a good eye. Feb 20th
