Hey Lin, Nice shot. I think I like all the posts in the shot. I took a "panorama" take on your shot to make it look like a really big body of water. I like wide angle lenses a lot, and also like panoramas which you can now do. My two questions are: what mm was the shot taken at, and I wish I could have seen the original. |

Hey Andrew. Thank for your comments. I tried what you suggested. What is not obvious is that there is a drop off of about 6 feet between where I was and the water, and there was not a clear way to get any closer. I cropped some of the bottom. I also increased the exposure and used a mask to darken the triangle. This was shot very soon after sunrise so I did not want to change the areas of shadows. Thanks again for your comments. |

Hey Jamie. I love Death Valley. The image is interesting and I like it, but... I tried cropping it and nothing happened. I kinda think you need the roof and the mountains. |

Hey Catherine, If I ever saw a real owl like that I would probably take up wildlife photography. I realize you were trying something new but I think birds should be in color, but that is just me. The body is sharp but the ears seem soft, and maybe the face. I forgot what kind of camera you have, but a lot of cameras have selective focus and maybe focusing on the eyes and even increasing your depth of field just slightly might have made the image look sharper. It's cool that you are always trying new things. |

Hey Andrew, I think it is good to see what is going on in the background, so you have cropped enough. I think the one closest to you looked like a winner. As always, exposure and everything else looks good. |

Hey Julie, The sepia tone gives the image a nice touch. It looks old and looks like a good angle. The writing on the front of the building holds you into the image. The building also has Corrugated metal, and you know I love corrugated metal. Someone might tell you the electrical wires should go, but It did not distract me away from "Carnation Flour". Keep photographing! |

Hey Haru. I like the color version more in this case. I did open the black and white version in ACR and worked on it. Your black and white version sort of looked inferred. I am not always a vignette fan, but in this case I felt it sort of held everything in. |

Hey Giovanna, welcome to our group. Your image looks like a postcard I would buy on a trip abroad. I agree with everyone's comments and look forward to seeing more of your stuff. Happy Easter |

Hey Haru, thank you for your comments. I am sorry about the pixel issue but we have to send the images at pretty small sizes. I like your first take on my image, but thought it would be better to crop the left a little bit. Your second take was uneventful and in my opinion did not bring anything to the main subject which was the rock. it's funny how your take changed the entire mood of the image. Thank you again Haru. |

Hey Melissa, just a thought... don't overdo the clouds and this is a good candidate for a "no vignette" zone. |

Hey Melissa, thanks for the comment. I will have to try that. honestly I was not sure what to do with the rock, but it did have a yosemite feel (to me). I wish you would have posted your take on it. Thanks again.

Hey Melissa, at the risk of sounding like I am sucking up to the new group leader, I wanted to be the first to comment on this image. The first time I looked at it, I did not think much one way or the other. After looking at it several more times, I realized the genius of this image. As a trained photojournalist I think this image has everything it should. It has great composition, a great subject, and perfect exposure. The dogs are doing exactly what dogs do, the girl is in the perfect place with a great expression on her face. The contrast is very good and I love the clouds. I like that her head is centered by the ocean and the sky and I love the clouds. I like that the image feels like it was shot with 120 film and you are right, it has great leading lines. The main thing is that this image tells a story, and makes you feel like you are along on the journey. The only thing I was not sure of was that the horizon felt a little off. I opened it in Adobe Camera Raw and it did seem a little off. I hope you don't mind me saying it is genius, because I underestimated it the first time I opened it. Thanks Melissa. |
