40 Feb 22 Comment Hey Henry, nice shot. Very clear and sharp. It looks like you used my favorites sliders in ACR. I like these kind of action shots and love how you captured it. Feb 12th
40 Feb 22 Comment Hey Julie, I like your flowers and think Henry was right on with his comments. I don't have much luck with Flowers or Birds, but the thing I liked best about your shot was your background texture. I think next time I am out shooting, I will look for some flowers. Or just go in my backyard. Feb 12th
40 Feb 22 Comment Thanks Henry. I was not sure what to do about the trees, so I cloned some of them out, and it took a very long time. I will try blurring them. I guess there are not any trees on Mars, only Martians who Kidnapped Santa (old movie reference). Thanks again. Next month, probably back to Earth. Feb 12th
40 Feb 22 Comment Hey Andrew, nice image. Shooting with a lot of people in the background is always a challange for me. I do not see any other angles that might have worked better, but I did not know what was to the left and behind you. As always if you get one thing right, another thing becomes a challange. To me, your image tells a great story without any explanation. So, a good rule of thumb: shooting a bull, drool is okay, shooting your family... No. Unless the judge takes off points for that. Thanks again for sharing Andrew. You really go to some cool places. Feb 9th
40 Feb 22 Comment Hey Jamie, I really liked your image. The power of the water is very evident. For some reason, to me, it seemed like there was a blue cast, so I adjusted the tempreature in Adobe Camera Raw, and kicked up the texture and clarity and the water seemed to pop a little more. Any good image starts with a well taken shot and I think you have a very well taken shot here. I did not do a lot to your image, but I hope this gives you some ideas of how to make things "pop". I am not a fan of sharpening, so I tend to use the clarity slider. Thanks for your submission and I look forward to more. Feb 8th
40 Feb 22 Comment Hey Alison, I have never had good luck at bird photography. I do not have a long enough lens, and I do not have a large selection of birds in my neighborhood. I do have a ton of Hummingbirds, my favorite birds, and I have tried but no luck. It looks like the eyes and face are sharp, and that is what I have been told is the secret. I like the shot, and think you should be proud of yourself. I don't know what else I would have done in the editing department. It's not always about what you missed (the wing tips). Thanks for sharing, maybe I will try Bird Phorgraphy again. Feb 6th

52 Feb 22 Comment Hey Lisa, I liked your original and I like what Mike did to it. Before seeing Mike's comment, and image, I also took out the tree on the right, but I wanted to give it a little more lonely look (I don't think I pulled it off) by havin it more toward the middle of the frame. I also punched up the clarity in ACR, and added a slight Vignette. I use Auto ISO when I shoot street photography, or travel shots, or cityscapes when I don't take my tripod. I usually set a cap of about ISO 800 and I like higher F stops. I think if you are going to take the time to set up your tripod and the subject is not on the move, you can set the ISO. Thanks for the great shot and thanks for letting me comment on it. One last comment. That looks like the perfect place to shoot landscapes. I am very envious of you getting to shoot Yellowstone in the snow. Feb 10th
52 Feb 22 Comment Hey Mike, I am not sure about giving this image a 1-10 grade, but I will say that if I had not read your comments, It may have taken me a while to figure out exactly what was going on here. I like the reflection in the forground and I am glad you cropped some of it out. I think I would have liked, as odd as it sounds, to see more background, so I could tell that the bird was in the middle of the water. It looks like I have failed in that I am not sure what I would do different, and that is probably why I have never been good at wildlife photography. If you shot this in multiple frames, I would be cool to see the series. Thanks for sharing, and you have given me a lot to think about. Feb 10th

74 Feb 22 Comment Haru, I always look forward to your comments. Your take on this image was closer to what I was looking for. I will go back and use your comments as a road map to rework other shots of vehicles I took on that trip and I will take your suggestion on finding the best angle and use it the next time I am in a similar position. I liked your idea about using my mobile phone to take some test shots. In the old days when shooting 4x5 negatives in college, my professor would bring along a polaroid camera to take test shots (before Cell Phones). I think we get lazy when we know we can shoot hundreds of shots and not have to buy any film. On your comment about time, I normally shoot several hours at a time, and lately I feel myself trying to shoot too many subjects. It is like "hurry up and get to the next thing". On this trip, I did have to cover alot of territory in one day. I think in the future, I will try to spread things out. This particular park opens at 10 am and closes before sunset. No golden hour shooting here. My last comment is that I like what you did with the grass between the truck and the building. Thanks for the help. Feb 9th
74 Feb 22 Comment Hey Jeff, I really liked the tones in this image. I like how the light on the wood gave it a rich feel. I wonder if the tree in the upper left was making the image feel unbalanced so I took it out. I also took out a couple of other things that sort of distracted me, and I added a vignette, which I am not sure about. Nice shot with a sort of reverence. Feb 9th
74 Feb 22 Comment This is a great subject. I shoot at the beach a lot and never quite capture the explosion like you did. I agreed with some of Haru's comments. I liked your crop and the image is very sharp. In my opinion, this is better in Black and White. Like Tracy, I like the dark ocean. Feb 7th
74 Feb 22 Comment Hey Haru, I was really touched by your story. I now realize the importance of the group's comments. I do, from time to time, revisit places I have shot before, and I don't have any guidance, just: "go back and shoot it again until you get it better". As far as the image you submitted, I think it is one of the best I have seen from you. I do agree that maybe a little ACR's new "select and mask" tool might have given us a little glimpse of what was on the rock, but I was not distracted because I know what is there. Also, I don't know what the person was holding, or what was dangling from her side, but that is easy enough to fix. The image is one I will remember for a long time. I was thinking if the person in the image was needed, and I think she was. It gave me sort of a focal point, and did not make my eyes wander all over the image. Thanks for the inspiration. Feb 6th
