Hey Lance, Thank you for the kind words. Back in the film days, I would "roll my own" film from a big bulk film loader. On this outing, I had about may 30 exposures so I had to make every shot count. As I remember, I only shot two images of the truck, and since it was getting late, and I was at least a hour from home, I moved on to other subjects. Now with photoshop, I don't have to shoot so tight. and Henry, thank you for your comments. I do love shooting in remote areas: just me and my music (and camera). I think most of photographers I know like to shoot by themselves or in very small groups. sometimes it gets a little spooky. I tried the contrast and I think you are right. Thanks! |

Hey Group, There were some interesting comments about my door. I tend to shoot a lot of abstract, or bordering on abstract images. I left the hindges in so the viewer might wonder if that was a vehicle. My mistake was telling you that this was an old truck. I sometimes get so caught up in my image that I don't see little things like: it's not straight. So I fixed that and played around with Nik HDR Tone mapping and wanted to post this so I feel like at least I can get it straight. Thanks, that is why I like this group so much. You make me work harder. |

Hey Julie, Nice image. You know, I never think of going to the zoo. I always whine because I can't afford to go to Africa. I will have to try that. The black and white makes him look older, and I like the detail. I noticed there is all sorts of stuff in the background, is why the tight crop? I love that he is sticking out his tongue at us, but my cats do that too. Thanks for sharing and giving me something to think about. I think the info about Mujambi was helpful also. Thanks again. |

Hey, Alison, I like your image. This is the kind of stuff I like to capture. We all get in a situation where we say: "I wish I had my tripod, or the lens I left in my car". I applaud you for not giving up. For me, the image is too dark, and the nice browns were not brought out they could have been. I went into Adobe Camera Raw and simply changed the Tempreature, and now I see all the wood tones and the nice wall behind the anvil. |

Hey Jamie, I can't believe you took this with an iPhone. I keep saying that when I look at some of my iPhone images. I like the black space at the top, so I can see there is an end, and I like the rocks at the bottom. I agree with Alison that it is always good to try different things, but I don't get a sense of where you were from Alison's take. In my opinion, there is not enough color in your image to make much difference in Black and White. I think some of us are wondering if we need to carry that camera bag with all that stuff inside. Nice Image. |

Hey Andrew, Nice image. I like the reflections in the side of the train. The driver was interesting. Let's hope he doesn't drop his schedule. Your cropping was good and the depth of view was good. To answer your question: if that is all you had of his face, I would crop him out. I did not notice him at first. Were you on the train when you took the image? |

Alison, thank you for your kind words. I will work on making things more clear, when I am trying to tell a story. I tend to shoot tight, which I am working on. I will assure you the holes are from bullits. Most of the signs and mailboxes in the area were shot up. Out in the country, it appears to be a favorite passtime. Thank you again for your comments. |

Hey Henry, I could not agree with Alison more. I like this shot and the fact that you did not over edit it. I wonder of a slower shutterspeed (probably would need a tripod) would have made the sun look different. I think your shot is great and I agree, the image gets a "WOW!". |

Hey Jeff, welcome to the group. I like both your submitted image and the one you redid above. The thing that impresses me the most is the sharpness. you can never go wrong with the sun behind a pier. Welcome again. |

Hey Tracy, nice image and nice detail. The depth of field is perfect. The black and white works for me for the reasons you stated. I like it. |

Hey Tevor, I love this. The action is captured well, and the editing was very well done. Black and white takes away from all the color distractions. Well Done! |

Hey Arne, I like the BW version of the image. It seemed like you were trying to show a contrast between new and old. I would have cropped less of the old buildings and I was wondering about the crane on the building. did you want it there, because it was a total distraction to the geat lines and architecture of this building. Your exposure is right on. With the dark mood, I think the old buildings would not have been as much of an intrusion. You don't have to keep all of the old buildings. just a tiny bit more. |

okay, I just got a new tripod for Christmas so next time I will probably use a tripod. some of these shots are taken on the side of the road with little access to a place to put a tripod. I do have the raw file. I use Photoshop and the NIK collection. I convert my images in Silver Efx Pro. I just came back to Photoshop after several years using another editing software, so I am getting to know Photoshop again. I am a big fan of Adobe Camera Raw, so I do a lot of my basic editing in that. My photoshop journey started with version 1 and a film camera. |

Hey Haru, My first love in photography is Black and White. Your image is really nice. I think in this case I prefer the color original. I cropped some of the top and bottom that some would say is distracting. The reflection works more in the color than the black and white (my opinion), so I left it in. If this image was one I made, it would be the screen image on my desktop computer. |

Hey Haru, I always look forward to your comments. I think the thing that was missing to me was the trees at the bottom of the hill. You fixed them perfectly. I do think your treament of the hill side was too dark and did not let the texture come through. I will work on the spots. I saw them there but was having trouble making the sky look even. Thanks for your help with this image. |
