52 Feb 26 Reply Amazing! I was the Director of Special Educatiom for Muskegon Public Schools from, 1984 to 1995. I still have a few friends there. Feb 11th
52 Feb 26 Comment First of all I am amazed at your quick reaction - I might have seen the action but doubt I would have reacted in time to capture it. Your postprocessing work brings out all the beauty and detail in the herons' feather for me and the eyes of both birds are sharp. I think including the little bit of terrain at the bottom gives it context. Well done as usual. Feb 10th
52 Feb 26 Comment To me this image is very impressionistic. I feel like it should be the illustraton for a poem. It works in sepia, but I think I like the cooler tones in the original better. Using the sepia toned version I think it would look good printed on parchment paper. Feb 10th
52 Feb 26 Comment Polly, I am very sorry the images are switched. That happened because both images were too large for the website and I had to move then into LR and resize. They were then mislabeled when I exported them.
Having said that, I think your post processing has created a good exposure. The foremost seal is sharp and the eye has catch light. The out of focus seal in back is for me a distracton. I am wonderinf if the impage would work as a square crop creating a portrait (headshot if you will) of the main subject. Try it and see what you think.

52 Feb 26 Comment No lens is ever long enough is it? Still this must have been a very exciting opportunity. I think the colors of the Serengeti are appealing. I feel the center of attention is the foremost cheetah and it appears to be sharp around the head and body but the legs are blurred. I presume you were panning so everything in the background has motion blur. I am guessing this is already a severe crop and cannot be pushed further. For me that diminishes the impact somewhat. 52 Feb 26 Comment Well done, Tom. We will be at Orlando Wetlands next week and I hope we get a chance to cature some images of eagles. You've created a high standard though. Actually, I am amazed at the clarity given the severe crop. The extreme close up creates intensity for me and the sharp, life like eye is almost chilling. Feb 10th
52 Feb 26 Comment I found this very interesting as it never occurred to me that an egret would catch and eat a rodent. I guess protein is protein to them. I think you have a good nature story and to me the image looks sharp. My only suggestion would be to reduce the saturation and luminance of the green grass. My theory is that green is the easiest color for our eyes to detect so it can sometimes overwhelm the viewer and draw attention away from the subject. Just an idea - try it and see what you think. 52 Feb 26 Reply I really like the low key effect you created. I will try to replicate what you've done. I don't use luminar but I think I can do some thing similar with the fog in Color Efex. Also, I now have DXOPure RAW5 so I may go back to the original and start with Deep Prime. Thanks for taking the time to work with this. Feb 10th
