Hi Ling Ling,
Andrew has asked me to comment on your Cheetah image. Before I say anything else, please know that I have never been to Africa so my big game experience is mostly elk and deer captured in the US. Mike has given you some excellent advice in my opinion. He is a master at post processing. I see another comment about adding a vignette, so I will just inject a word of caution about that. If you plan to enter this image in a PSA Nature Divison competition of any kind, keep in mind that vignettes are not permitted.
I think your choice of aperture has provided an appropriate depth of field. I like the way the focus drops off behind the subject. The subject is centered. I think you might consider cropping a tiny bit behind the Cheetah so that it gives more of an improssion of forward motion. Lastly, I would do some sharpening - perhaps unsharp mask in Photoshop. Be careful not to overdo it.
Congratulations on a nice capture. |

I like the strong graphics of this image and I feel it is perfect for monochrome. It appears to have good tonal range. I would suggest darkening under the mushroom to obliterate any hint of detail there that might distract the viewer. Well done. |

On first viewing this image I was drawn to the mother and infant...which in my opinion is the story here. I think the infant's expression is compelling. I also think cropping out the other monkey allows you to create a very intimate scene with a strong story. I agree with the suggesions about removing the grass in front of the baby - as long as you are not presenting this image in a nature competition or exhibition that requires you to stick to reality. |

Hi Tom, To me the composition is strong and adheres to the Rule of Thirds (I don't think we always have to obey that, but it this case it really works.) I agree with the others that the image looks too warm and a bit oversaturated. But it has an almost "painterly " quality about it in my opinion. Technically, I think it is perfect - as are all your wildlife image. Nice capture. |

This is a beautiful location with lots of interesting elements. (I was there once about 20 years ago and I long to return.) I think you have done an excellent job of dealing with all the motion of a rocking boat. When I first saw this image and the original my thought was that the original looks a lot more realistic. Of course, as a photographic artist, you have lots of latitude in presenting a scene the way you see it in your mind's eye an do not have to adhere to reality unless you are competing in a nature competition. However,, if you decide to stay with you final image as presented here, I do think you might want to consider reducing the sturation just a bit. |

Hi Mike, Thanks for your comment. I hope your recent trip was successful.
As for this image, I agree that the rain is the key element. Without it there is not much of a "Wow" factor. |

Thanks, Pam. I know Egret images are a dime a dozen, but I thought the color and the pose made this one worth keeping. |

I have recently entered this in an exhibition, but I put it in Color asoopposed to Nature because I have removed the intruding branches at the top and the right of the frame. I am not sure about the merits of this image either, so this is kind of trail run to see how it does. As for the original, personally I don't think it would do well in nature beause I do not think there is enough impact. |

Hi Polly, I will keep that suggestion in mind if I enter or exhibit this anywhere that titles are used. For PSA-recognized exhibition titles are irrlevant and never seen by the judges. They are merely for record-keeping. Sometimes I think that is too bad, because you are correct that it helps the viewer understand the story. |

Thanks for your comments, Judith. I liked the open beak and what appears to be n expression - although I think that may be anthropomorphizing :) |
