Thanks, Polly. To me the straight vertical branches seem too static. |

Thanks, Judith. I agree with you on both points. I feel there is just somethingmre dynamic with the diagonal line. I am using this for a greetung card with the message, "Hang in There..." |

Personally, I prefer the new crop for the reasons I gave in my comments. But now I also see that it puts the center of interest - the exchange of that tasty tidbit - in a much better positon within the frame. Of course, this is a personal preference. Why don't you show both versions to Gary and see what he thinks? He and I have discussed this kind of cropping before and I think he had an image that got widely accepted after he made the more intimate crop. |

In my experience this is a very tough shooting angle, but you have managed to make the most of it. The critter he has captured is as sharp as the eyes and beak. I tried to see what Tom was referring to as pixilation in the tail feathers, but to me it just appears to be a little softer that the breast and head. I do not find that this detracts at all from the image. You must have some kind of internal radar for capturing birds with prey. I don't even know if my vision is good enough to have spotted this opportunity. Nice work in my opinion. |

Once again you have found beauty - and art - in the smallest of nature details. It appears to me that you have sharp detail in the center folds, but the focus falls off somewhat at the edges. I think Tom's suggestion about doing some manual sharpening is spot on. I am curious about your lens choice for this image. |

I think this is a very pleasing image...I immediately saw it as a potential Christmas Card. It looks to me like you have got very good detail in the feathers, and also the catch light in the eye. I agree with the others about doing a bit more more work on the barnches. It will further enhance analready well-done image. |

For me, the "star" of this image is the color palette, which I think is lovely. The fact that you have three elk is a strong composional element. I wish the two in the back were not merged as it appars at first glance to be one elk with two heads. I am sure the light was fading, but I wonder if you had continued to shoot if they might have seprated a bit? I think you have made a good choice on the white balance. To me the snow looks very natural. |

Congrats on capturing a truly decisive moment. The feeding interaction is, for me, a very strong nature story. I have a strong bias toward not amputating any part of the subject, so unlike Mike, I would consider additonal cropping on the right to make this a tight shot of the feeding interaction. To me, it would make it seem more intimate and intentional on the part of the photographer. Having said that, it is entirely a personal prefernce and you are the artist. In either case, I think you have a a worthy image. |

I am quite partial to high key images, so I find this appealing. I also like its simplicity. However, the haziness of the branches is an effect that takes away from my overall enjoyment of the image. Iwould be tempted to work on the branches and the eagle in separate layers in Photoshop and then merge them. I agree with the cropping suggestion providing you have enough pixels. |

I see that you are all in consensus so I will go back to th original orientation and remove some branches through cloning. Thanks for your help. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. |

LAst week's PSA Bord meetings have delayed my reply, so my apology. It seems the consensus is that the tilt does not work, so I am reconsidering. I really wanted a very simple image so I gues I will have to give in to cloning outsome of the extra branches. Thanks for your help. |

Sorry for the delay in comments and replies...I spent the last week in Board meetings. However, I did read your comment and think about it. My original plan was to try to eliminate extraneous branches only through cropping so hence the tilt. But seeing as how i eventually did some cloning that is a moot point now. I have done some dodging of the face already, but will go back at it so see if I can make a differnce. Thanks for your help. |
