Thanks, Polly. This week I have been watching the Photoshop Summit 6 videos and have learned some new tricks. I think you are correct about the saturation and some of the stuff I learned may get me that result. |

Good job. I think your edits have given the image some "pop." |

I love the wing positon of the bird and the fact that its landing pattern created the diagonal line...I feel this is strong composition. To me, there appears to be a slight yellow color cast. I would either try to fix that by tweaking the white balance or use the Remove Color Cast filter in Color Efex. Nice capture - as always. |

I think you have captured a good nature story. The subjects are all sharp. It looks like you were shooting in bright mid-day light. I am thinking that you could have used a much wider shutter - likely 7.1 or 8.0 and a faster shutter speed so that your background would have been more out of focus and less distracting while retaining the sharpness in the subjects. I think Mike's suggestion about reducing highlights and opening up the shadows is on the right track. |

What I like best about the image is that you cptured it almost at water level. I feel like the otter is looking right at me. Both eyes are sharp and have catch light. There is a lot of detail and the colors work well, Very well done. Was this done handheld? How close were you (I am curious about focal length.) |

This is a lovely scene, Ally. You can use the Transform tool in LR selecting "Guided Upright." It will allow you to straighten the image by chooing two vertical and two diagonal lines to correct both the trees and the horizon. You may lose some pixels on th edges as a result of this, but it should not be much. I do not know if you enter Nature Divison competitions or not, but be awre that the road - being eveidence of the "hand of man"- would disqualify this image. It would do better in Color Open, especially if there is a landscape theme. |

I think the wing position and the detail in the bird are really nice. My eye travels smoothly from the seed on top of the log and along the diagonal flight path to the bird's eye which has catch like and looks very much alive. I too would crop on the left leaving room for the bird to move forward, but eliminating the tiny twig. |

I think your crop works well and using the two DeNoise programs has taken care of that effectively. I am thinking that if it was my image my next step might have been to select the subject and increase the exposure on it before working on the background. Also while the deer is selected I might want to tweak the WB to warm it up a bit. Try it and see what you think. |

Thanks, Ally. It actually has a slight vignette, but maybe I need to increase the intensity. |

Thanks, Mike, I have been fooling around with this some more and given it a photo painting treatment which accomplished most of what you suggested. |
