Polly, I usually keep two versions of an imae like this one...one for Nature and another more artistic version for print or for competitons that are "open." |

You have done it again, Mike. It seems like there are an overwheming amount of image of African wildlife on social media, in exhibitions, photographic periodicals, etc. but youhave made yours unique and captivating. Nice work,my friend. |

Whoa, Judith!!! I love what you have done with this. The white background and the soft seipia of the botanicals just grab my attention in a big way. I also like that you kept to the "rule of three." The two stems on the right being merged are the only slight drawbacks I find, but capturing the draon fly in the middle makes up for it in my mind. Nice work. |

I find the gold color really appealing and to me, the Grebe absolutley pops. You have invoked my artistic side...if it was my image I would remove all the weeds and have the enitre backgound be smooth water. Then I would crop it to a square with the bird on the top right power point. Lastly have it printed on metal or acrylic. It would be a true work of art in my opinon...but of course it is yours, not mine, so take what I have said with a grain of salt. |

I am always drawn to minimalist images and I think you have captured a good one. Photographing snow is tricky since your camera always wants 18% neutral gray. I don't get to photograph snow much here in Arkansas, but I believe I have read that using matrix metering and Aperture Priority will give the best results. I can't vouch for that due to lack of opportunity to test it, but thought I would share what I've read.
I too find that sharp line disconcerting, I wonder if you could use the clone tool to lengthen some of the stems at various lengths to make the line they form look more random in nature? Just a thought. You might try it and see what you think. |

I love this intimate portrait. My eye goes first to the raptor's eye and then moves down the sharp beak to the breast feathers. I evaluated this image before I read any of the comments already posted and my initial reaction, looking at both the processed version and the original, was that something was done that softened the breast feathers. I sometimes take the DeNoised Layer from Topas and the original and open as layers in PS then mask and blend the two for the best overall result. Its a lot of work but ususally worth the time and effort. Now I see that Mike had much the same idea.
I assue the light was from the side to enhance the texture. I a curious if it was natural anbient light or some added light source, |

I think the others are correct about the crop being a bit tight...not only eliminating some of the reflection but I feel there could be a little more space behind the bird as well. I know you try to stick to reality as much as possible and I respect that, but I am wondering if the subject would stand out more if you selected the background and reduced contrast and clarity just a wee bit. That fish is a new species for me. I wil have to look it up but I am guessing it is primariy on the west coast. |

Thanks, Mike. I started over with the unedited original and tried to incorporate what everyone to date has suggested. See my revised version under Judith's comments. |

Thanks for the suggestions. I went back to the unedited origian a started over incorporating all the suggestions I have received as of Aug. 11. In addition to DeNoising, I did some painting on the background in PS. I like the result but will look forward to hearing what everyone else thinks. |
