Shirley, I think you have captured some good action and the horses and riders look sharp to me. One thing I noticed right away (that I believe would jump out at a judge if you entered this in competiton) is that the rail line in front of the horses has lots of clone tracks. You might want to enlarge it and check that area. This image has potential and would be imptoved if you made that correction. |

Hello again, Catherine. If you have ti,e to do moe than one group, we have an opening in Group 52 Nature + where Mike and I hang out. Just a thought - not encouraging you to leave Andrew LOL. I made my own assessment before reading what the others have suggested; however, I agree that the face and ears are a little too soft. Another thought I had was to make a Curves layer in PS - or you can do it just as well in LR - and try to get a better tonal range by tweaking the curve. That takes some practice but it is often just the think that is needed to make an image pop. |

Thanks for those comments and suggestions. You have some really good ideas. I think the color version need more work and you are pointing me in the right direction. |

In my opinon, you have captured a very strong nature story. I too would like to see a little more light addd to the eyes of the chicks. Also I feel that a crop from the bottom eliminating more of the nest would improve the composition. I am very curious about how long you had to watch this nest to get this shot. I once watched a Osprey nest all day. The adult returned from time to time, but never brought a fish. I guess your bird was a better provider. I admire your patience. |

This is another "out of the box" image that you are so very good at capturing. I think the others have made good suggestions, so I will not repeat. However, I am wondering about a square crop that eliminae the tree or branch on teh left? Try it and see what you think. |

When I looked at this image my first thought was that you deserve a lot of credit for doing something a little bit different in this location. It is indeed a beautiful sunrise, although I agre with the others about how difficult it is to tone down a blown out sun. Did you by any chance take a few frames before the sun was completely up that might not be so blown out? If you did, it might be work experimenting with them to see if you can get both the sky and the land correctly exposed. Compositional, I think you have framd this up just right. I am curious about your plans for this image. Canbvas is very forgiving and I can imagine this as a canvas gallery wrap. That Mark IV has enough pixels that you could make this pretty large. |

Pam, I like your original with the mountain and sky in it, andI find it much nore intereting than the suggested crop. Since it was such contrasty light, HDR would have helped - but that is always a challenge when shooting hand-held. I have experimented with trying it hand- held using a very, very fast shutter speed and sometimes I get a good result. The other thing I have tried with this type of image is to make 2 virtural copies and modify one to at least one stop above and the other one stop below the original; then merge them to HDR. Sometimes that looks too "faked" for men but there are other times when it works just fine. It might be worth a try with this image. |

Thanks, Mike. I think it sould be easy to modify the vignette. I also appreciate your suggestion for selective asjustments. I think both will improve the image. |

Thanks, Ally. It is alwasy a challenge to get the swans framed up correctly when they are moving so quickly. I will see if I can add some canvas to improve composition. |
