Mike, I love it that you caught the wings in that very powerful position. This was definitely captured at a decisive moment. Another thing that I like about this image is that the water is sharp right up to the subject and then falls off nicely behind it. Your skill level with BIF is so advanced that I feel I have very little to offer you in the way of suggestions, but I do offer my appreciation for your talent and perseverence.
Thanks for all your encouragement as I had surgery. Recovery is going great. |

Judith, I really enjoy reading your explanations and comments, as I think you are usually coming from a very different - possibly much more artistic - place than the rest of us. Also, your personal style is very different from that of most nature photographers - and I mean that as a good thing. I am not sure what to make of this image. I think I see where you were trying to go with it, but for me there is just oo much in it that I can't seem to pull together into a coherent idea.
I am very pleased with the results of my surgery and I think recovery is going well. I hope you are having the same experience and we will both be hauling around those E5 cameras again very soon. |

I think both Pam and Lisa are on the right track with this image. I especially like the way Lisa added space and turned the subject. The diagonals, in my opinion, add strength to the image. |

I think the star of this image is the miror-like surface on the water. At first I was tempted to suggest cropping down from the top to eliminate some or all of the dead branches on the right; however, that would necessitate removing their reflection on the water as well - could be a lot of work to make it look natural. In LC's edit I feel that the boosted contrast in the sky is not helpful...I don't personally care for that bright area where the trees meet the sky. In my opinion, the best way to enhance this image would be to do some selective dodge and burn. As it is, I feel the image is a bit flat. All said and done, I believe this has potential and is work working on it some more. |

I think you have gotten a number of worthwhile suggestions for this image from other group members. I would not ditch this image, but try them all and see what you think. I do like the two suggested edits in which the color is boosted. If you have enough pixels, why not try a head and shoulders only portrait of this ram? |

Thanks for your comments, Mike. Adding the solid black layer was a long shot. I had the R5 all set up the way I wanted it and put a 14mm Samyang lens on it. I had not previously used that lens with the R5 and it did not occur to me that there were no contacts between lens and camera, and I had not set it for "shoot without lens." So long story short, I was using an mostly unfamilar camera. I honestly cannot recall which blendng mode I used..I scrolled through and hunted for one that got the effect I wanted then adjusted opacity. I basically use the techniques in Jennifer Wu's book "Photography: Night Sky." I have made som further adjustments and posted it under Judith's comments. |

Thanks for the suggestions, Judith. I have tweaked is a little bit more, darkening the sky, shifted the WB in it, and toning down the rocks. What do you think? |
