Hi Julie. Congrats on captuing such a strong nature story. I think I see why you chose the portrait orientation as it draws ny attentinon upward and emphasizes the large wing span of the bird. In my opinion, however, a little more space in front of the subject would give it some "breathing room." If possible you might try to lighten the shadow of the wing that falls on the head. Finally you might consider tweaking contrast and saturation just a tiny bit. This looks like it was a fun shoot. |

Stunning image - as usual! I am supposed to say that is my opinoin, but I would bet I could get a high level of agreement on that. Not only is it a great subject, but you have captured it at exactly the righ tmoment in my opinon. Well done. No suggestions. |

You are definitely great at spotting small subjects that most of us miss. The greens in this image are lovely in my opinon. I would suggest a much tighter crop. Then I believe I would use the healing tool in PS to remove all the brown spots on both the pods and the leaves. Next, I would use the lasso tool to circle the pods, select the inverse and add a blur to the area outside the selection. Now I have one more idea - call me crazy - I wouold experiment with creating a solid color layer (try a blue or green) and use eithr multiply or soft light blending mode at a reduced opacity. I think you could have a lot of fun trying different looks with this image. |

As a lover of the photocrhome vivid look, this image appeals to me. My eye goes right to the eye of the subject which is perfectly sharp and life-like. I agree that it seems to be looking out of the frame. In your final edit I would suggest trying to get about twice as much space in front of the subject as you have behind it. Another thing you might conside ris darkening the background and desaturating it a bit so that there is more attention drawn to the beautiful bird. |

Thank Heaven for sunflowers...there is so much a photographer can do with them. Good job finding a perfect specimen. Messing aorund with backlit subjects is fun,, but in my opinon, it has resulted a a very hazy center of the flower and one in which I see little detail. I would use the radial filter in LR to select and mask the center then dehaze, add contrast and clarity, and perhaps see if your could brighten it up a bit. You already know my tendancy to go to square crops on flowers, and that is just personal taste, but you might try it and see what you think. |

This is a lovely scene and for me the composition works well. I think adding more fog at the top would enhance the mood and add interest. Personally, I like water to be more white so I might consider desaturating the blue on the stream. One thing that surprises me is your choice of f/2.8 which seems like a very shallow depth of field for a landscape image where you want it to be sharp all the way through. While it is hard to tell since our images are so small, I do think the sharpness drops off about 2/3 of the way in and the rocks in that area look a little soft to me. However, from an artistic oint of view, I think the image works. |

Thanks, Pam. I agree. A square crop would work nicely. |

Thanks, Lisa. I ususally do my masking in Photoshop, especially if I am using one of my textures or just wanting to add a solid color layer. However, OnOne Effects has an easy masking tool along with some nice filters for warming and also warm/cool effects. |
