You are veering into some of my favorite territory, Mike. I have been collecting textures for some time and trying to use them to enhance my own images. A great book is, "Art Beyond the Lens: Working with Digital Textues" by Sarah Gardner. I think you have done a fine job of selecting the right texture and applying it only to the background. I do not see any spill onto the subject. I love the image. |

I really like the color palette and the detail in the yellow portion of this fading magnolia. You have a great imagination. I might have captured this image for the shapes and colors, but could never have come up with that story line. I think thhe black background works, but it is not crisp enough aorund the bottom to satify me. Would you consider cropping it? Also, i often rotate my images a bit to add interest. You might try a 45 degee rotation to the right. Try it and see what you think. |

This image provokes an immediate emotioal reaction for me - anger about the plight of wildlife that are suffering from urban development and global warming. I don't know what killed this fascinating creature, but I don't like it! Some stories cannot be told with only a singe image and this may be one of then. I would like to know more about the surrounding environment so I could better understand what has happened. |

Like LC, I much prefer your panoraminc crop, and I vote for the less "punchy" interpretation. This would make a great large canvas - definitely a wall-hanger no matter how you choose to present it. |

I have the Samyang 14mm which I use primarily for this type of shot. I find it to be a very good sharp lens. In my opinon your sky is well processed; you have brought out the Galactic Core very nicely I think. I suspect that if you could open up the shadows in the foregroud some it would help. I still have to look hard to realize that I am looking at a nature scene and not mad-made structures and electrical poles. I think this image has a lot of potential, and with more work on you may have a winning image. |

I will be at this location in October, and your image makes me excited about my trip. You have already received a lot of interesting feedback, so I will see if I can add anything to the discussion. First of all I really like the perspectivec you chose for this shot. Also, I think your choice of shutter speed was wise. I know many of the streams in Mchigan have yellow in the water due to all the cedar trees; however, in you processed image, I think the yellow has been brought out intensely. On the other hand, in Mike's edit, I think the blue is too strong. Maybe you can find a happy medium. As for the rock, it shows why the water is flowing as it is, but I think cropping off about the bottom third of it and creating a more panoramic image woudldadd to the visual appeal of the scene. |

You are correct on both counts. I guess I did grab the image that was next to it. Also I think more space on the righ tis a good idea. Here is the edit. |

The background is probably at least 30 yards behind the subject. You are correct that the Nature Division editing guidelines would not permit the removal of that cobweb. Thanks for your comments. |
