This image reminds me that I have to make a point of looking at things more closely. Y u found interesting subjects and captured them in sharp detail. I think the color palette and the diagonal lines make this a very interesting image. Good thing you have that R5 - 45 megapixels gives us a lot of cropping potential. |

I like the nature story you have presented. I like the refelction and the fact that you have light in the eyes of both birds. For me, there is too much empty space in the image. I am not sure I would suggest further cropping though - even with 31 megapixels you already have a significant crop here. Maybe this is a job for Gigapixel? |

I think you caught a decisive moment with this image. Your choice to zoom in to where the action is helps tell the story. To me, the eye on the left (subject's right eye) looks a bit soft. You might try using the radial filter in LR to select that area and add contrast and clarity. I often use frames and think they can set the image off nicely. However, keep in mind that they are not permitted in the Nature Division (we started Nature+ to get around some of those rules). Also, in PID you cannot use elements that you did not create yourself, so no frames available in software are allowed. In PS you can easily create your own from by increasing the canvas size and choosing a complementary color for it - even add a bit of noise to give the frame some texture. Try it - it's fun. |

This is a beautiful bird portrait and I think you have captured it well. I don't believe we have this species in my part of the county; however, we have several other types of swallows and I know how fast and erratic their flight is. You were fortunate to capture one who was at least momentarily still. I think the tack shapr eye and the catch light you captured make this image stunning. Nice work. |

Thanks, Pam. I have follow Gerlach for many years - he startedout in Michigan where I lived for a long time. I try to avoid fill flash fpr my nature images as much as possible because I do not care for the effect most of the time. But I do understand what you are saying. I will ponder it. By the way, I guess you know Gerlach is going to be at Photo Festival. Can't wait to hear his presentation. |

Tilting it is a great idea. I agree that diagonal line is muh stronger. Why didn't I think of that?!!! |
