What a fun image, Paul! I see what Isaac is saying about a few hot spots. It looks to me like the light is coming from the left. I think that controlling that light source would make the overall exposure more even. Have you thought of putting this on a plain black background? |

I am wandering through from Groups 35 and 52 and your image caught my eye. It looks a lot like the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas which is where I live, so I paused to take a closer look. In my opinion the long exposure creating the pattern in the foreground gives your image impact. I like the way the series of cascades leads my eye right to the back of the image. I presume this is an HDR image, but in any case it appears to me that you have captured good dynamic range. |

I am happy to have an opportunity to view one more of your excellent Slovenia landscapes. I hope everyone in your group knows that you are the September Deitinctive Artist featured in the PSA Journal. The images you have there are so beautiful they will not want to miss seeing them and find out even more about how they are created. Congratulations on an honor well-deserved. |

I think it is interesting how we each bring our prior experiences and knowledge to the interpretation of an artwork. I grew up in Pennsylvania and had a lot German ancestors (often referred to as "Pennsylvania Dutch"), so I think that informed my contruction of a story around the barn. Your explanation helps me to understand the story you were telling. Either way it is a nice image. |

I smiled when I saw this because it made me think you are channeling Jamie Konarski Davidson. This is exactly the type of image she would shoot. I really like the texture of the ferns against the bark, as well as the contrst. The bright spot beneath the tree trunk on the botton right however pulls my attnetion away form the center of interest. If this were my image I would consider either darkening that area or cropping it out. |

I love the symmetry and the soft colors you have captured. I have not tried Foggy Lights, but I will be experimenting with it now, so thanks for pointing it out. The only thing I would take a look at is that the tower seems to have a very slight lean to the right. I don't always transform to get strait verticals on architecture, because I believe that a little bit of diagonal adds a dynamic feel, but I do like to avoid teh impression that a structure is leaning. Although, if that horizontal line at the base of the tower is level, then perhaps the tower does lean, so I may be way off base. It is a great subject, and your processing, as always, is excellent in my opinon. |

My first reaction is that you have done a really good job of capturing a shiny subject with no distracting reflections. The tonal range in this image looks great to me. I also like the soft diagonal lines. I would not change anything about this. |

I love the quilt barn which we do not see here in the south. I am a quilter of sorts, and I always think that barns with quilts on them tell a story: i.e., men build barns which they hope will outlast them and be a legacy to their families and women do the same thing with quilts. In my opinion the sky competes with the trees making me feel this is a busy composition and has the effect of drawing me away from the barn. I think that if this were my image I would crop down about 1/3 from the top and 1/4 from the right and focus in on the barn. It's a personal preference, I know, and you may be telling a diferent story here, but for me, a less busy scene would work better. |

I like the wide angle view of this subject that lets me see the context in which this interesting ruin is set. I hope you also zoomed in and did some detail work, because I would bet that this is a place where many, many different compositions could be made, all equally compelling. In my opinion this image could be imporved by selective dodge and burn to give it more tonal range. I also think that Terry made a good suggestion to deal with the foregrund which is much less interesting than the area beginning with the fence. I think either crop or darken it would work. |

I had to look closely at the original to make certain what I was seeing. The red color you have produced made me think far infrared - like you see with night vision. It gave me the sense that I was looking through the front wall and seeing the interior of the building. In my opinion this really pops and will grab and hold a viewer's attention. I think the composition works and the image looks to me to be sharp all the way through to the background. |

I guess I got so caught up in the story I forgot to mentin the settings. This was made at 280mm focal length. ISO 4000; f/8; 1/1000 sec. And yes, a 100-400mm lens. |

I get the impression this heron has an attitude and you have captured it well. I think you have done a fine job of taming the background; however, cloning out or toning down the bright spots in the leaves would, in my opinion, improve the overall effect. Once that is done I think I would try Reflector Effects, silver in Color Efex Pro to put a little bit more light on the bird. |

I think you have done more with a dandelion than I could ever have imagined. Great job seeing how artistic a very common flower (weed?) can be. At first glance I thought this was a sepia image - then I noticed the pink around the edges. I can't decide if that works or not. I would like to see a version where it is entirely sepia. To me, the area where the stem meets the back of the flower looks a little bit soft. Perhaps adding contrast and clarity there would bring back a little more detail. |

To me this image is stunning. I love the soft colors of the palette. It appears to me that it is very well focused - every raindrop looks sharp. I must agree with the others though, that it gives the impression this beautiful flower is floating in space. If it were mine, I would definitely add at least a suggestion of a step going down toward the bottom left. It could fade ot, but I feel the flower needs to be anchored. Also, I would clone out the dark spots in some of the droplets. I think you have a stellar iage here and a few minor tweaks would make it perfect. |

I think you have effectively executed the focus stack. I really love high key images and have been working on creating this type of image for the last few months. For me, the color image works better than the monochrome. In my opinion, the strong contrast in the color version adds impact. The monochrome, on the other hand, seems to me to be very muted. This is only amatter of personal taste. I can imagine the color version as a very large canvas on an accent wall. It would be stunning!

Ali although this is not actually on target for this group, I think some feedback to you is in order. Like Mike, I would crop it some. Since you did not show us the original, I am not sure what you have to work with. I think I would crop a bit on the left, but also consider taking out the dark sandbar on the right, because it leads my eye out of the frame. In addition, I believe I would try to bump up the contrast somewhat. |

Ali, in my opinion, this does not meet the criteria for a nature image, even in Group 52. I feel that the subject, however small, is the boat with the two human figures. |
