"God Beams" are always a winner in my opinion. With the bird just above them there is a real story here - an ethereal feeling I think. I am not sure about the foreground. The vegetation does not add any interest for me and it seems to be lacking in detail. Have you considering a vertical presentation with just a tiny bit of the vegetation at the bottom to keep the eye in the scene? Just something you might try. It is a nice capture and I think it has lots of possibilities. |

This is a pleasant, peaceful scene and I really like the glassy smooth effect on the water. I think cropping about 40 percent of the space on the left of the structure would improve the composition. I was interested in your use of Photomatix here. Did you choose one of the presets or is it just neutral? I have been using Photomatix for my color images and like it best for city scapes, architecture, old vehicles, etc. I have not been too pleased with it for my color landscapes. Recently I tried it with faux color IR and did not like that at all, but I have never tried it with a monochrome image. |

Nelson, I have to say I like this image, but I always wish you would tell me more. For me, your artistic intent and some idea of what you wanted to communicate to viewers would be very interesting in evaluating the final result. Having said all that, the curving line around the pond has a very organic feel. I find the blue color pleasant and the whole scene is calming. One suggestion, if you happened to shoot this scene again, would be to allow a little space between that left edge of the pond and the end of the frame. |

The first thing I noticed when I opened this image was the preponderance of horizontal lines. This gives the image a pastoral feel, but I think there are no lines that draw me into the image. In fact the two fences actually stop me from wandering into the back of the scene. There is a balance with the clouds on the right and the taller trees on the left, but I cannot find anything in the scene that makes my eye want to come to rest. I am wondering what it was about this scene that captured your attention, and how you could have communicated your interest in it to me, the viewer. I am not sure how much latitude you had to move around, but if you could have positioned your camera so that at least one of the fence lines was diagonal, it would be, at least for me, a much stronger image. |

I know you love high key images, so a white background would definitely be your style. I hadn't thought of trying that as the rose was white and I wanted contrast, but next time I will try it both way and see what I think. |

Thanks, Helen. I hadn't noticed that dark petal, but I agree that bringing up the shadow there would help it. |

How interesting! Thanks for sharing that information. I see why you aren't showing the behind portion of the bear. I am sure that would not add any interest. |

Mike, I would love to have an opportunity to try to capture images of this owl as they are so beautiful and mysterious. For me, you image really has that mysterious feel. I like the suggestion of the fence line at the bottom and the sharpness of the eyes. I feel that, for me, the image might be improved if there was more definition toward the ends of the wings. |

Personally, I like to see tight crops of flowers with a soft effect. i recently purchased a Lens Baby Velvet 85 specifically to create that effect. (Usually the highly technical photographers rebel at this and see it as a flaw, but I see it as art.) I love the both the colors and the shapes in this image. |

Well, Tom, this a strong nature story if I have ever seen one. Do you have any other captures of this scene in which the bear is entirely in the frame? This is a fine image as you have presented it, i am just curious about what the scene would look like not cropped in so much. |

In my opinion this is a sweet image. If it was mine it would be my next holiday greeting card. I have been getting more and more interested in the artistic effects i can crate with Topaz Impression 2 (I just wish that program wasn't so darn slow!). Degas Dancer is a pretty effect, but I usually feel line I have to back it off quite a bit or there is way too much texture. AS you say, it is a matter of personal taste. |

Lisa, I lived in the north for many years and did not know how to photograph snow. Now that I know more I hardly ever see snow...so lucky you. I like the story you have presented in this image. I pulled it into Silver Efex and checked the histogram; what I found it that as you have presented it there are dark and midtoness, but it is really lacking on the bright side. I applied a full dynamic range (smooth) filter then increased brightness and contrast until I shifted the histogram to the right. Then in LR I cropped from the bottom so that the dominant figure was on the lower right third power point. Lastly, I added some vignette. Take a look at my visual feedback and see what you think. |

I really like this scene and feel in has a great deal of potential. My immediate thought was that it needed some selective adjustments. I pulled it into PS and made a luminosity mast for the bright areas. Then I adjusted brightness and contrast. Next I made a levels and curves layer and adjusted that. This is the result. You can compare it to what the others have suggested and see which matches your vision. |

Wow, John! You are branching out into new territory. This is a great little video that really shows Arkansas as the great state it is! You should share this at HSV Camera Club sometime. |
