Sometimes I envy the photographic opportunities you have there in your area. This scene is wonderful and the IR treatment is, in my opinion, a good choice for it.
I do not agree with the suggestions to crop at the bottom. I see the horizon is close to the middle, and many people feel that is a hard and fast rule. In my opinion it can be broken if you do it with artistic intent and I think that is what you have done here. I would not want to lose the reflection of the weak sun. For me, the image is perfect just as you have presented it. |

These old ruined places offer so much photographic opportunity. It is aways a treat when we can get access to one of them.
I enjoy looking at all the various shapes in this image, but for me I believe you might have included too much. My thinking would be to go in tighter. The area I find most interesting is the middle just right of center. I don't recall the pixel count on the Nion D300, but if you have enough pixels, I would suggest are pretty serious crop to focus in on a simpler part of the scene. |

These ships come to Little Rock every couple of years and I always vow to go photograph them - still haven't done it - so you have rekindled my interest. I know how many people you must have had to deal with and I think you did a good job with that. I do agree with the others about that white vignette in Silver Efex. I like the look but it is too heavy handed. When I apply it, I use control points to minimize it and get back some of the detail. In the past I have submitted images with that vignette to Print of the Month and if I don't do that judges always react negatively if I don't modify it. I think this image has competition potential. |

The first thing I notice is all the lines and textures, and then I appreciate the wonderful tonal range you have captured. Yes, if this were mine I would clone out the little clouds - it would simplify the image. There is an area a little right and low center that looks somewhat soft to me compared to the space at the same distance on the left. Maybe you could brush in some clarity in Lightroom and make the lines a little more distinct. Have you considered cropping some from the bottom and making it more of a panorama? Try it and see what you think. Overall, I lke this image. White Sands is a special place - one where it would be easy to get really lost! |

The moodiness of the sky and the impending threat of storm it implies are the opposite of the peaceful feeling of the park and the pathway. I like that sense of tension it creates. I want to hurry down the path so I am not caught in a storm, but still enjoy the beauty of the park. Your perspective is perfect in my opinion. My eye travels smoothly through the scene. Your post processing seems spot on to me. |

I think I read something about this location recently. Was it part of a missle testing site?
In my opinion you made a good choice on aperture, but why did you go to such a fast shutter speed for a stationary subject? Regardless, the exposure looks correct, so I am just asking out of curiosity. I think you might consider pushing the histogram at the white end in order to bring up the whites if it can be done without blowing them out.
I think including that little bit of fencing was a good idea. To me the straight on perspective renders a static feeling. Shot from a low point at one of the corners, this subject would interest me more and the fence might be an even stronger leading line. |

I think this is a beautiful reflection with nice leading lines. They pull me right into the image. The combination of warm and cool tones really appeals to me. I have no suggestions for you as I think this image in top notch and should make a lovely print. |

In my opinion you have achieved nice bokeh. I think the bright highlights detract from the effect so would suggest cloning them out. In my opinion, this image would be much more visually appealing if the specimen you chose was perfect - few or no brown spots. I would suggest cloning the larger area on the tips of the leaf and removing most of the tiny ones using the spot healing brush in PS. |

As always you have captured a very sharp image and everything about it looks very life-like to me, especially the eye. In my opinion the crop is a bit too tight. I think the image would be improved by including a little more of the neck.
I know you tried the Tamron 150-600mm and have gone back to the Canon 100-400 with an extender. I have finally become convinced that it is the way to go. I will use that lens on my next birding trip which should be next week if it ever stops raining here. |

I think you have captured an image in absolutely lovely light. The head looks to me a tad dark so I would suggest selectively nudging up the exposure in that area. The wing position is one I find ideal and am always trying to capture. I also think the splashing water and the reflextion add to the story and enhance the image. To me, however, the Egret with its back turned detracts somewhat. I would suggest eliminating it by cropping. |

I am guessing you were shooting through glass for this image and that accounts for the effect John mentioned. In my opinion it makes the eyes and the top of the head. the area where you would want maximum sharpness, look soft. I think it is well composed and probably worth trying to get more clarity. Have you tried using brush tool and the clarity slider in LR to selectively sharpen it up? |

Yes, this is the same image you posted in September. I looked back when you first submitted, but thought it was much earlier in the year, so did not look at September. Sorry, I did not look further so I could have alerted you to this. It is still a good image.
