Great jobs Mike, Joe and Al. You took a nearly totally black image and made something out of it. The software out there today is really a big help. |

Al's rendition is almost what our August special category will be..... Take a color image, turn it into a monochrome. Then pick one color (it does not have to be an actual color in the image) and put it into the BW image. Example: a bride with 1 flower in the bouquet in color - or the whole bouquet. Only 1 color though. November will be the other special category month - Unusual lighting (this can be natural or created by you) |

Very nice image - however I think I would have like to see something that tied back to the original. I don't see anything that would tell me that the final came from the original. That said, the technique is quite unusual. I'm going to try and make an action to do this.
Thanks for the instructions! |

Well said, Joe. This was the whole point of this exercise - also not necessarily whether the image was well done, but how we can use our ideas to make something out of nothing.

I agree. It has a sort of "arty" feel to it. When I submitted the image, I wondered what it would become. As I had previously worked with it in LR, I was interested to see what Mike would do with this - and he didn't disappoint.
I went a little different route starting in LR and also using Topas DeNoise and Glow.
With all the different programs and plug-ins out there now, even an almost black (yes, the original is there) - you can get some interesting results. |

I agree with Peggy. While the rocks are interesting, I feel the subject is the eagle. I'm seeing a bit of chromatic abberation in the rocks (purple fringing).
I cropped down to get both the rocks and the eagle. Then I brought it into Topaz AI Gigapixel and doubled the size. Had I played with it more, I would have tried to bring back the feathers in the eagle. |

This is another example of taking a shot that is a "record shot" and turning it into an artistic piece. The energy created in your version really shows up.
There are many programs like Nik, Topaz and even PS that have the ability to filter for different effects. You've made good use of them here. Good job! |

I agree with Peggy and Al - nice job! I sort of feel he's a little too saturated but it kind of adds a lot of color. |

The idea of this project was to take a look at our "reject" photos and see if there was anything that could be salvaged.
This was a good example of taking a throw away shot and turning into art. I really like the concept of the "ghost horse" and love what you've done with this. Good job!

Topaz has a new program called AI Gigapixel. It's great for upsizing images. I can get this one up to 1800 by 2900 (give or take) with more sharpness. Could try it even bigger. If you do (or want to) upsizing, this would be worth the price. |
