90 Jul 21 Comment Hi Andrea, Enjoy the blossoms and the monument adds to the image, however with two points of interest I find myself conflicted moving from one to the other. The light area on the bottom left is distracting and I would personally crop it out leaving part of the tree trunk. The latter then creates a useful 'stop' to keep you looking into the image. The problem then is that we have cut through the main group of cherry blossom which is the whole point of the image. Try to keep the monument separate from the tree blossom so that it is enfolded by it, not hidden. Jul 21st
90 Jul 21 Comment Hi Dan. Interesting dilemma. I would agree with Dan that the seagull adds nothing, especially as it is preening and so you cannot see the head clearly. I have no problem with guano, and as the whites are well controlled then it is adding interest to the image. If mine, and not for a nature comp, then I would crop square and also remove the further 3 pelicans on the left [because they look out of the image] and move the pelican [cut and paste] a bit lower so that it does not cut through the rocks in the background! Hopefully you also have later images where the pelican is closer to landing to save you the trouble! Jul 21st
90 Jul 21 Comment Hi Dan, really enjoy your dragonfly image, well caught. There is a classic symmetry to the image and most importantly the insect is sharp throughout. If this was my image, I would want to lighten up the blacks and reduce the luminance in the background greens. The latter is easy enough to do in camera raw filter under color mixer. The bright spot [bottom right] is distracting and you should try to reduce that if you can, but judging from the color of the bright spot you may have already tried this! Dodging with a 10% brush should help to bring detail into the blacks on the wing and thorax but may also produce artifacts if pushed too far. Jul 21st
90 Jul 21 Comment Hi Ginny, Great capture despite the challenging lighting conditions. The oof background really compliments the flicker nicely. As suggested by others it is just a matter of dodging the shadows with a soft brush, you can remove noise later. Your finished image is better but the shadow under the bill has become somewhat more pronounced. Be careful of the over-bright wood which is distracting. Jul 21st
