Than you for your comments. This foreground certainly presented with several problems. In Michigan's upper peninsula we have some nice dark sky opportunities; however, here is typically a lot of hiking involved to get to the better foregrounds. I hope to get more night shots submitted over time and will keep working on the quality of my foregrounds and compositions.

67 Aug 21 Comment The animal tracks have such pleasing lines and carry the eye through the image. I agree with focusing more on the animal tracks in this image. They interest and movement to the quiet feeling of the snow. Aug 21st
67 Aug 21 Comment This is a great action shot. The bright blue sky is a nice background. One aspect of this image that is a little distracting to me is the broken branch over the bird's head to right. It's hard to control those things in nature. Aug 21st
67 Aug 21 Comment I love the colors on this guy. You achieved a nice sharp image and the crop helped to tighten this up. You left some nice negative space in front of the bird to give room for the bird to look into. Aug 21st
67 Aug 21 Comment Nice image. The closest goat is sharply focused and I like he is looking toward the camera helping with engagement of the image. The vegetation in the image helps to add interest and shows the environment. Aug 21st
67 Aug 21 Comment What great creatures to capture. The kayak helps to get down low with this image which helps. The lighting was not in your favor; however, you were able to get more out of your image post processing by making some adjustments with the highlights and contrast. Aug 21st

Thank you. It is a challenge balancing the color post processing with an Astro modified image. I hope to post some more astro shots in the near future.

I did take a look at you Milky Way image in the other group. Thank you for sharing that post.

You make a legitimate point regarding the Milky Way being the star. In my original post I cited I use Photopills. I did not say I used it for this images as I took this a year ago and was just beginning my Astro photography journey. However, there is much more to discuss here regarding what has interfered with the composition. I actually did capture the core but did not get the southern portion of the core. I do agree the trees being lit in the foreground by the flood lights is the big interference with the composition and is what interfere with the Milky Way not being the star.

Thank you for all the feedback as it helps to get new perspectives. This has inspired me to post more Astro photography for discussion. Hopefully the clouds and smoke will clear here in Michigan.

Thank you this feedback is so helpful. I believe this is all good support for scouting sites out ahead of time and preplanning. Although I did some preplanning I did not go out there at night prior to this shot and did not realize the dam is lit up with lights. Of course I had no control over that aspect but I will continue scouting the area to find a better foreground with no floodlights.

Thank you for reply and comments. I appreciate your perspective. I agree I would have liked to have gotten the Milky Way in a more vertical position and captured more of the core. You mentioned you couldn't initially see the Cataracts. The Cataracts is a place and perhaps my title was deceiving as it mentioned a falls which is created by the dam which was behind me. You did provide a lot of food for thought.

Thank you for your helpful comments. I use Photopills as well and find it an invaluable tool. I agree the tree on the right draws the eye away from the center of interest.

I had several challenges with this image which included all of the lighting behind me. I chose to share this image due to the challenges. Often I stack and blend 5-10 images to reduce noice in the sky and incorporate a better focused foreground.

I appreciate the feedback and will work on more pre-planning my night shots.
