Piers, this is my kind of image! Beautifully caught. The fisherman in the middle of a cast is an extra added bonus. The horizon cropped at 2/3 is perfect and the small spit of land on the right balances where the fisherman is standing. I like your edit although the silhouetted fisherman is also excellent. This is an excellent composition and all technical aspect to me are outstanding. |

Ruth, I too wouldn't change a thing. To me this is a classic National Geographic image and I mean that as a compliment. All the colors are right on and the image has perfect balance. This is a very strong composition. |

Amazing image Butch!!! This is a major example of knowing your location, knowing your equipment, technical knowhow, planning and the persistence to go after it. I have a friend that loves shooting hummingbirds and he shoots with 3 to 8 flashes for stopping wing movement. Since you were 25 yards away what telephoto did you use? Out of sheer curiosity how many images did you shoot altogether? This is an excellent composition and all technical aspects to me are outstanding. |

Outstanding image Ken. Your fly is perfect and tack sharp and the background and lead in leaf is excellent. Your crop is super and I personally wouldn't change anything. |

Ruth, thank you for your kind comments on my Black-Neck Stilt. I was not the one who had the accident. It was Michael Brunstein whom is a member of my bird group 21. |

Jim, I had the same question about how to create. Mike was very gracious and composed a step by step and emailed it to me. If Mike would want to put it on Group 21, I'm sure that would not be a problem. More like very helpful to all. |

Here is Michael Brunstein's story:
I was in Bolivia in Salt Flat area going down the stairs of a restaurant. The stirs collapsed and I fell one floor. I was in 3 different hospitals in Bolivia and then sent to Peru in a private jet. I had cerebral trauma, 3 broken ribs, 2 breaks in C7, decreased vision on the left, hearing on the right and a shattered left scapula. I was doing ok but then July I felt like something was wrong with my coordination. I went to an x-ray place near my house and ordered my own MRI of the brain and orbits. I had a cerebral bleed. I was in ICU and had two surgeries to drain the blood and stop the bleeding. I am now pretty good but it is doubtful that the vision will improve and it cannot be corrected with glasses. |

Ted, very nice catch of the African Paridise Flycatcher. Like the pose looking out into the distance. I hope you don't mind but the tail being cutoff and the pastel background just didn't feel right so I did some adjustments in PS. what do you think? |

Don, I love the simplicity and detail. The odd number of swallows keeps your eyes from jumping around and the branch is a great leading line. Can see the eyes on all three which is a plus. |

Jim, beautiful example of a Black Eyed Junco. Your Junco is tack sharp and the background certainly compliments the bird. Would have liked it more if the branch was not in front of the bird but you can also view it as a nice lead in. Like the slight turn of the head towards the camera. Have never seen one in real life. |

Marlyn, I am with Leslie. I know they say that with even number objects your eye jumps back and forth. Even though you have two Whistling Ducks, they are tied together with that beautiful weathered wood and branch. I love it exactly as presented. Very nice background also. Ducks are tack sharp and both have great eyes with catch lights. |

Nanette, this is a very striking image of the Castel San't Angelo. The time of day that you shot the image was perfect. Love all the lights except the two little red light tower near the Castel that draws your eye. Very minor but I removed them. Outstanding image. |

Stewart, please don't shoot me but your striped down version is quite boring. Your main image and the original are interesting Day at the Beach scenes. Took the liberty on the main image and removed any cut offs and I think it makes for a very interesting image. |

Jamie, I like both images. The original is sort of a record shot but your "Bygone Days" is very artistic. Your filter looks like very old horizontal lined glass. Very clever. You or the filter also toned down the bright window nicely. Very well done. |

Bev, I love the image. Was the chief a real person? It has great color, sharpness and definition. Hope you don't mind but the sky in the top left doesn't seem to go with the sky in the top right. Tried to tone it down and match the right a somewhat. What do you think? |

Richard, very interesting reflection image. Don't mind that the image is divided right in half since the reflection is so sharp and the reflection balances it out. Does appear washed out but most likely that is the way it actually looked. Many times it is what it is. I like what you did to it adding a bluer sky and water. Hope you don't mind but I also tried some editing trying to keep it closer to your original. Adjusted highlights, blacks and temp. What do you think? |

Bridget, thank you for your comments. I'm afraid it is somewhat painterly from shooting a 9 image HDR. The HDR program I use also has that effect on some images (Aurora). Maybe I should tone it down a little? But like you I like the feel and vibrance. |

Jamie, this is one of those love it or hate it images. I love it! That day I was walking the back alley behind the bar/restaurant the colors really hit me. HDR probably exaggerated the colors also. Thank you. |

Richard, thank you for your comments. The amazing amount of colors did hit me as I was walking down the alley behind this restaurant / bar. Being an HDR image it is probably somewhat painterly or grunge and probably too bright but I think it did get the feeling across. |

Thank you for your comment Donald. Jimmy Buffet played there many times and it is to this day exactly as you describe it with lively conversation, laughter and great waterfront views from the water side. By the way, this place is the low end of sophistication. |

Bev, you are exactly right. To me it fits because I recognize it as Schooner Wharf Bar in Key West. This is the land side and on the other is the water. Different title would have been better. |

Michele, very interesting how everyone has different opinions but to me this is very unique as to how photographers see an image. I prefer your edited image posted 8-8. It also appears much sharper than the above images. If John had not posted his image I never would have realized that that the structure is actually two. One being inside a tall wall. It prompted me to examine it with google Earth. Being somewhat of a purist I took your second edit and removed two objects that I felt took away from this amazing image. |

Dennis, my feelings on your landscape is that your second image is the best after you tweaked the sky. Do not like the vertical image because when you first look at it all you see is a large dirt pond bank and the cottage and reflection gets lost. To me the ducks are a welcome addition in the original that moves your eye away from the dirt pond bank. Your image has great color, sharpness and definition. |

Mike, I believe you are exactly right. I find many HDR images come out this way almost painterly and have to be dialed back for a more realistic look. Will give it a try. Thanks Mike. |
