Very interesting but also a very busy image. Not saying I don't like it because I do. All over there is something interesting to check out. I especially love the golden figurine barge. It has great color, sharpness and definition. |

Jim, being a lover of HDR and even grunge I really like this image. Did need a little room in front of the boat and by doing this lengthened the image so I really don't see the need in cropping the sky. |

Xiao, outstanding image of a very small, very sharp Ruby-crowned Kinglet. Like Pete's work on the bird but also felt that the extra space on the left detracted from the nice detail. What do you think? |

Barbara, Excellent composition, and all technical aspects to me are outstanding except the movement of the wings unless you wanted to show movement. Hummingbirds move their wings from 80 times per second all the way up to over 200 times per second. To stop them cold you need to shoot 1/4000 per second or higher and even that may not do it. A friend of mine that is way more proficient than I am at stopping the action of their wings uses a flash and sometimes several flashes, he has very good luck. Still a gorgeous image. |

Ingrid, your duckling image has great visual impact and interest. I think the multi colored bait fish really helps to draw you to the ducklings face. I took the liberty to play with your image. Cropping different ways but always came back to your crop as by far the best. The small ripples of the water also draw you in. Tells a good story. |

Super image Micheal. Like what Mike Cowdrey did to soften and blend the background. Like the way you offset the Great Gray Owl to the right slightly. |

Mike, lucky for us, this pond is only about 30 feet from my home. Even though it is small we do get a lot of hawks, ibis, Pileated woodpeckers, crows, migrating birds, frogs and turtles. Thank you for your comments Mike.

Jim, I like everything that you did. I think your adjustment definitely made the hawk more prominent. We are lucky here to have a small pond behind our home and hawks are an everyday occurrence. |

Very nice catch of a Moorhen. I have to agree that it has picked up something to eat such as a bud, berry or fruit. I don't think a bird would pick up a led shot. His expression is that he is not going to give it away. Very realistic colors but I do wish the eye was a little sharper. |

Leslie, I certainly agree with everything that Jim said and I too think this is an amazing closeup of a night heron. The eye and fines detail of the head is superb. This image is a great example of the strength of simplicity and is very striking. |

Ted, your image certainly displays the peak of action with the fish proudly in the Great Blue Herons mouth. I think the heron is slightly over sharpened but what bothers me most is that the feet a cut off. Good catch. |

Don, this is a very nice, well cropped image of a Blue Winged Teal pair. Your composite of the two ducks is perfect and really like the catch lights. I thought the image was a little flat so I used haze removal and now it pops somewhat. May not look natural? What do you think? |

Super image Sandra. The image would have been a record shot without your son and dog. Being from the east coast I would have thought it was fog coming in but in my opinion the smoke adds an element that helps give it nice visual impact. This is an excellent composition and all technical aspects are outstanding. |

Bev, thank you for your comment. Years ago my parents used to live on Sanibel and I can remember signs that said if a gator chases you run in a zig zag direction away from them. They say they can run (and I have seen them) very fast for short distances straight line but not turn. I wouldn't want to find out! |

Stewart, very interesting image. Would have liked to have seen the bland image. Looks like you put a lot of work into this. Your colorization is very well done and your color choices, definition and sharpness are right on. I did think is was a tad dark so I lightened it. What do you think? Maybe too light? |

Richard, thank you for your comments. I have had several close encounter in Florida and try and give all gators a wide birth. My parents years back had a home on Sanibel and one night my wife and I were going out to dinner when all of a sudden a 12 footer came out of a gully in front of us. We hit him and the car just about jumped off of the road. I looked back and he didn't even miss a beat crossing the road and into a swamp. Scared us to death. |

Richard, your crop is perfect! The number one thing I get from your image is the feel of the heat and the expanse of the land. Love the sun exploding in the V of the forest. Outstanding image. Rich to your question. I'm sure you do exactly what I do. Shooting manual, I bracket f- stops and speed. Shoot many images and hopefully some of the experiments might be better. |

Donald, very nice tack sharp image of a well decorated lighthouse. Perfect crop. Would make a beautiful Christmas Card. Whenever we are in Booth Bay we always spend a day or two at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Is Bet's Fish stand still on the way into Boothbay? Donald you live in one of my most favorite areas in the whole world. |

Bridget, I find this a very well done, colorful, well thought out artistic composite. I wish the woman was more to the center or more to the left. The problem with this is the third element which is your blooming blue flower. It would be cropped and I wouldn't like that either. Did show a cropped image but my thoughts are to leave it alone. Well done., |

Dennis, I too like the ferry coming diagonally across the bay. Being a sailor, I am amazed at the sailboats in that huge marina. This is an excellent land/sea scape. It is cropped perfectly and everything is tack sharp. Normally I would think the sky would need some detail but in this case it helps to draw you right to the city and marina. Very nice. |

John, love the comparison between the 1063' cruise ship, the 40 plus foot catamaran and the massive expanse of sea and sky. The warm earth tone colors of the sky and reflection on the sea really make it. The crop or angle of exposure is SUPER. Very well seen John. |
