21 May 24 Comment Thank you for your comments Don and Mike. It always amazes me the beauty of mating plumage of some birds. The great blue heron is dark blue most of the year. I try and shoot the image with a fairly large f-stop to blur the background but it doesn't alway work and sometimes needs a little help. May 23rd
21 May 24 Reply Michael, this great blue is in mating plumage and was quite dramatic. Better Beamer help to really bring out the colors. Did have to crop it and I think it could have been sharper in areas. May 16th
21 May 24 Comment Michael, Great catch of a juvenile horned owl. Face and eyes are sharp and really stand out. There are no distracting elements in the frame and the soft background is excellent. Wouldn't change a thing. May 15th
21 May 24 Comment Don, this is perfectly cropped image of a beautiful bird with great eyes and expression. Like the slight turn of the head. I sure understand some days are dull and flat. I did try to give it a bit more contrast and color. What do you think? May 8th
21 May 24 Reply Leslie, I agree with what you said about the background and toned it down. I think it makes the Great Blue pop a little better. Thank you. May 6th
21 May 24 Comment Gabriele, this is a whimsical image that really tells a story. Very well done with the pelican very sharp and the background out of focus. Would make a good cover for a magazine since it really does looks as though he is reading. Nicely done. May 2nd
21 May 24 Comment Mike, your Mandarin Duck is a near perfect image. Colors of the duck are true and vivid, duck is sharp and the turn of the head makes it. Out of focus background forces you to keep your eyes on the duck. Wouldn't change a thing. May 2nd
21 May 24 Comment Leslie, I was thrilled to see this image. About ten years ago we lived in Fort Myers, Florida and towards evening many of us photographers and bird watches would gather along the back bays of Fort Myers Beach and wait for a huge flock of Ibis to work their way by. For that whole season there was one Scarlet Ibis among them. After that never to be seen again. Great image that really tells a story and you caught it at the peak of action. Would like to see the water a little darker but that's just me. Outstanding catch! May 2nd

46 May 24 Reply Wow, that is quite a nest and image in itself! May 13th
46 May 24 Comment Marilyn this is an excellent image! The ospreys are super sharp and both their eyes are very piercing. Love the wings out! Normally I would say that your eyes go back and forth between the birds but in this case I really like it. How did you get a level shot when ospreys normally nest very high up? Well done. May 13th
46 May 24 Comment Lisa, love the three layers and the osprey in the darker area really pops. Tack sharp and most importantly great eye. Caught in the peak of action. Heard rumors from several New Englanders at the Saint Augustine birding Festival that the NECCC may be coming back. Any truth? May 11th

48 May 24 Reply Thanks for your comments Don. One such photographer is Clyde Butcher. He still does in the water, sometimes waist deep walks through the everglades with birders and photographers. He is an amazing photographer! He lives on old 41 in the Everglades. Not for me. Never never never! May 19th
48 May 24 Reply Paul, I wish we didn't have them. Being a photographer and being out in the woods and swamps for pictures they can surprise you anywhere. The ones in the image are babies but they can be huge. You always have to be aware. May 19th
48 May 24 Comment Bev thank you, but I think you are just being kind. May 11th
48 May 24 Reply Bet it does super! May 9th
48 May 24 Reply Lloyd, thank you for your comment. The state estimate that there are 1.3 million gators here in Florida and in some areas you really have to watch out for them. They are a true predator! May 9th
48 May 24 Comment Very nice image Paul. I also like what Don did but not being there I can't determine which image has the truer color. Very interesting that 700 raptors nest in that area each spring. That alone would draw me to that area. Very balanced composition. May 8th
48 May 24 Comment Bev, I am amazed that this image is as sharp and detailed from taking a picture of a TV screen. Like the regal background also. Very realistic. Well done. May 8th
48 May 24 Comment Donald, I know you said you weren't prepared but I think this has great visual impact and interest and it was caught at the perfect precise time. Honestly a very good image. May 8th
48 May 24 Comment Lloyd, wouldn't change a thing. Great visual impact and interest. Very strong composition. May 8th
48 May 24 Comment Jamie, the expressions are super and caught at the optimal moment. Crop and sharpness are perfect and like Don said, the image tells a good story. Super! May 8th
48 May 24 Reply Jamie, thank you for your comments. It was a chilly morning and I think they really were trying to keep warm. Chilly by Florida standards is 60 degrees. May 7th

71 May 24 Reply Thank you for your comments Michele. Yes, the original was a mistake. May 12th
71 May 24 Reply Thank you John, this image was shot from a pier and the colors at sunset are ever changing minute to minute. May 8th
71 May 24 Reply Thank you Mike. Sometime you luck out. May 8th
71 May 24 Comment Mike , I like your image and you certainly caught it at the peak of action but I felt that it needed more saturation. Tweaked several things in PS and I think it's a bit better. What do you think? May 8th
71 May 24 Comment John, totally agree with Mike. Absolutely a beautiful tack sharp image. There are no distracting elements other than the little green box on the other side of the river. Outstanding! May 8th
71 May 24 Comment Ryan, very hard to work with strong light. I think you did and excellent job though. You covered the full spectrum of a monochrome with dark to light. Good tonality. Like the square crop. Very nice image. May 8th
71 May 24 Comment Michele, I am torn between these two images. The color image is breathtakingly beautiful and the monochrome is very dramatic. It is a strong composition and I can't see the need of improving either image in anyway. Color wins out showing more detail I think. Are the homes actually built right into the mountain? Did you notice the rock structure in the middle of the pond actually looks like a seagull? May 8th
71 May 24 Reply Very well said John... May 8th
71 May 24 Comment Theresa, Love the image and the Milky Way! The tree looks to be about 40 feet tall. My first glance at the image was superior image but what is the tripod's shadow doing there? Your positioning of the tree and the vast Milky Way is great but the tripod has to go. May 1st

97 May 24 Comment Peter, absolutely a gorgeous duck caught at the peak of action. Beautiful! I too have never seen nor heard of a Garganey Duck. Agree with Roy and maybe reduce exposure just slightly. Very well done. May 13th
