David, This Sparrow Hawk is absolutely beautiful. Like Richard said, the eye grabs you with color and contrast. It is a strong composition and is perfectly cropped. I also really like the way you toned down the background highlights. Well done. |

Richard, this is my kind of image. Monochrome really made it pop. To me it has great visual impact and interest and in color it does not. Very well done. |

Gorgeous image Michael. I think you caught these two hummers at the perfect moment. This image has huge visual impact and interest. Background couldn't be any better! Did you actually use the the lightning fast speed of your strobes to stop these two hummingbirds? Only thought was a slightly tighter crop. Well done. |

Roy, this image was shot at dusk, 7:38 PM. Didn't have the luxury of the sun unfortunately. We never mind someone joining in. The more comments the better. Thank you. |

Mike, this skimmer is so black, the tissue around the eye is so black and the eye is so black that if I was 12 inches from him I might not see the eye under some conditions. Thanks for the comment Mike. |

One thing that doesn't help any of our images is that many of our images are 10 to 60 mg or more then we have to reduce them to 1mg or less tube accepted into the DDG site doesn't help any of our images. But it is what it is! |

Ha Ha Ha very funny! Actually had to do a lot of work on that eye so it wouldn't look too bizarre. Thanks Ron... |

Ok everyone. Here is my skimmer with a fake eye. Won't say where it came from. After competing for more than forty years I know that the first thing a judge looks at is the eye of any living creature and it has to be sharp. What do you think? Honestly his eye on the beach was black on black on black. |

Leslie, this is an absolutely beautiful image. Love the high key background and the Hoatzins almost look like a painting. The only thing I would recommend is the removal of the lower right branch. Bet the Amazon was amazing! Super image! |

Thank you for your comment Ron. If you go to Fort DeSoto go to the northern most part of the north beach. Early morning and near dusk is the best and not on a weekend if possible. I was reluctant to bring out the eye because there was a skimmer resting and I got to with 6 to 8 feet of it and they are so black I still couldn't see the eye. Possibly a catch light might help. |

Hi don, in Florida we are overrun with white ibis but this is the best image I have ever seen of one. The slight turn of the head towards the viewer is excellent, the out of focus background and I even like the bee. We go to the Everglades quite often and you never know what you are going to find. Well done. |

Hi Mike, like your Heron Squabble a lot. I think it was important to have three herons so you eyes don't wonder. You caught them at the peak of action and you can see all of their eyes. Well done. |

Hi Gabriele, this is a beautiful image and you caught it at the peak story telling moment. Your sharpness is good especially moving along in a vehicle which certainly adds to the difficulty. I did feel like Mike, that the birds somewhat get lost in the colorful background. I darkened the background and it made the birds pop. Great catch. |

Hi Ron, I think this is a spactular image. You caught these grackles at the perfect instant and you exposure is right on. The only thing that bothered me slightly is the space at the bottom so I added just a little. Super image! |

Hi Mike, thank you for your comments. Having competed for over forty years you have to get used to negatives and positives. The negative in my book are how you learn. The black feathers and eyes are midnight black so I purposely did not lighten them at all. I think this is going to be a great group. |

Mary, like the composition and idea but like you said I just wish he and his eyes were in focus. Nice try though. I put a skimmer in Bird group - 21 and it had no eye but honestly standing 5 feet from the bird I couldn't see one. You should read the comments. It finally turned into a joke! |

Hi Bev, this is a beautiful image. Eyes and catchlights are right on. I did feel her forehead left side was a tad hot so I toned it down and red background was distracting so I darkened it slightly. very nice. |

John, I a really curious. What do you think the streaks in the sky really are? Watched the video and they seem to come from the top of the frame??? John , another question. Where were you up on a hill or in a tall building. You had a great vantage point! |

Nigel, I think its a terrific pano! I know you were on a boat but were you able to use a tripod. If it was hand held, you are the steadiest person I know. Only one minor thing that bothers me is the bright light left of the beautiful white building. Very nicely done Nigel. |

Michele, I like your elongated crop much better! Thank you. A not so funny story: These foreground boulders looked fine for moving over to get the best angle shot but as I found out they were slippery as ice and I almost went for an unwatered swim. |

Hi Mike, wouldn't change anything about this image. The lighting accentuates the mood and story. Love the way you caught it with the sun drenched water in the foreground and the paddles both up. Nice job. |

Hi Michele, I like both images. The color image carries itself whereas the monochrome I think needs the cow for prospective and to make it more interesting. You certainly did get super depth of field. You caught the cow perfect with the slight turn of the head. This image is a perfect example of the full spectrum of monochrome from black to white. That is not so easy in itself. Well thought out image. |
