Thanks for your conversion Tom. I think I prefer my original shot as the clouds are a bit distracting. You're right about the verticals - I sought a little technical assistance. I used the transform tools in Lightroom to make a 4 way set of lines to straighten it all as best as I was able. The right hand turret then became slightly shorter than the left hand one so I made a selection of it and used CMD+T(distort) to stretch it to the correct height. I think Michele might be on to something with mono because although I still like my original colour version the mono one is also good. |

Thanks Michele. I also have it in black and white and I see where you're coming from but to me, the word "palace" and the gold facade matched each other. It's also the shade of gold which made me think of how old the place was. I'll try to dig out the B&W version for comparison. |

The sense of achievement going up there must have been wonderful, especially with more views on the way. I'd be interested to see more of those Michele.
You're absolutely right about it being the shot you want to take. There's sometimes a bit of snobbishness around photographers who comment that "everyone takes that picture". Well, if it was like this, they would wouldn't they? I'd like to have taken that. |

Thanks for your comment John. The sky was awfully grey and as it's not going to be a competitin shot I just left it as it was but I see where you're coming from. I have more detail available at the front of the image and will check out your suggestion. |

Tom, when I said open up the shadows I should have added - behind the tram - we can see clearly the front. |

I like the framing on this Mike - it reads really nicely across the image. The dust cloud gives us a sense of movement through it. I'd have taken a tiny amount off the right hand side so that the top of the tree almost touches the right hand upright, but just allowed a small amount for separation. |

I like this. A really busy street shot at night. My take on the space at the bottom is that is helps balance the busy main image although I would have removed the white disks (manhole covers?) as they are distracting. Well taken.

Nice composition as Mike says. I know it's dusk but as it's a tram on lines, could you open the shadows up a bit to show more of the track to give us a sense of placement? |

The main thing for me in this image is that it is 0.6 degrees out. The horizon is higher on the right than the left. I also agree about the shadows. In Camera Raw you can make a luminance mask to select a luminance range for the shadows and then amend to taste. Certainly on such a bright day I would have expected to see more in the foliage and vegetation, especially considering how bright the sea and surf is. However, you may have done the PP this way in order to concentrate the eye on the sea? I like the waves contrasting against the water. It's a nice curved bay and the amount of sky is just right to me. |
