It does lack a firm focal point Mike. I knew there was an image there somewhere when I walked past it but didn't have tons of time to compose so just took the lot so to speak. Now I've had chance to edit it I've tried to take in what others have said and had a go myself. Cropped off a lot of the left and highlighted the middle section. It's just a record shot really. Thanks for commenting. |

Thanks Michele, your comments are all spot on and I think the mono conversion is probably the way to go, there's more chance of a better tonal conversion because of the dynamic range. As I mentioned just now to Tom - I'll have to have a go myself but thanks for the crop suggestion.

Thanks for your edit Tom. It shows that everyone has their own style and yours is different again. I like what you've done with the sky although I wouldn't do it like that myself - this was a record shot of somewhere we went and to alter it like that would not let me remember exactly how it was. If I thought my image was competition worthy (which I don't) then I too would have been more creative with it. The work on the reflection and cloning the houses out works well. I shall have to have a go myself and post I think. |

Nice colours on the tree and well supported by the waterfall John. I agree with Mike about the branch. I'd like to have seen a little more of the waterfall but it might not have been possible to take a few steps to the right without losing the original intention. |

Good exposure and natural colours on this one Mike. I think I might have composed it differently in my head but of course I don't know what your limitations were at the scene. To my mind, the right hand section of the curved wall is too dominant. I think I would have cropped to the point at which the other curve intersects it. I'd also like to have seen more of the building on the left which is almost out the frame. The story looks as though it should be about the archway and the steps leading up to the tower so we need to see more of it.

A very subdued landscape owing to the lighting and possibly time of day. The bridge is quite understated despite the presence of colourful flags along it. I like the composition and the smooth water emphasising the calmness of it all. Good mist in between the hills giving us some depth. Well taken Michele.

A well converted mono travel image. A decent sky and well composed with what you had to work with but it doesn't hold a great amount of interest, more a well taken record shot. |

I was wondering how to describe my thoughts on the re-worked image Tom - Michele has used a most accurate expression "an artistic interpretation of reality" - I like that.
There is a starkness to this image and also an anger which I find contrasts against the people in the foreground quietly going about their business. I prefer this edit to the last one. |
