I thought that the unnatural colour in the sky might have been as a result of an attempt to darken it down if it was blown out. |

Thanks Michele, I agree totally about there being no need for a focal point. The image was originally 2:3 but I made a pano to eliminate some distracting stuff and also to let me lead in the ferns from the bottom left hand corner. Thanks for your input. |

I've taken European Jays before and their colour is quite in your face compared to this subtle one. Great pose and square crop is right. Well taken. |

I think most of the comments reflect what I think of this. However, I think that although you said you struggled with the overhanging branch, it would work well slightly lightened for framing effect. In other words, make it a part of the image that you meant to include, not part of the image you wanted to get rid of if that makes sense. |

That's a meaningful shot Michele. On one hand you have the lovely curve of the bay, flat water and clean sand, then it's all ruined by the rubbish on the shore. An ecological magazine would love this.
Well taken. |

I like smooth water and I like shots where the droplets are defined so this works for me. I'd have got rid of the acidity in the greens, a bit much for me. The orange speck in the bottom left hand corner - once you've seen it you can't unsee it. I'd have cropped a bit off the bottom and the left - the foreground rock will still be prominent enough to balance the image. |

I like the composition of this but more than that, the mono conversion. There's good use of tonal range especially in the foreground rocks. It needs a re-visit at a suitably stormy time to capture water action. Maybe phone the lighthouse and ask them to tell you when a storm is brewing! |

Thanks guys.
As you say Mike, there wasn't a real focal point and it was the overall scene as Tom mentioned, that was the intention. The lead in from the hill on the left, the ferns in the front and the light on the valley were the reason for taking the shot. |
