5 Sep 23 Reply Hi Oliver, I think that is a good idea. It also improves the story by drawing attention to the fact that there is strong light coming from the right and dark skies on the left Sep 19th

5 Sep 23 Reply So what is this creature that looks like an alligator but are common in your yard? Just assuming they are something a bit less intimidating Sep 6th
5 Sep 23 Reply Thanks Barbara. It's a summer holiday place so pop would be like that. Sep 5th
5 Sep 23 Reply Thanks Jim. This is Castle Point named by Captain Cook on his voyages mapping NZ in 1770 (after the rock in the background that he thought looked like cattle ruins). Plenty on Google if you are keen for more. Sep 4th
5 Sep 23 Comment Always look forward to your images and good to be reminded the opportunities are everywhere, close at home too. I agree with David's edit and nothing to add Sep 4th
5 Sep 23 Reply Hi Jim, looks good to me Sep 4th
5 Sep 23 Comment Hi Richard Have to say I do like the original crop too. There is an intensity of purpose in his face that you have captured and I really like that. Its as though he never realised you were there. Its a great character study.

But I get the crop as well but I did wonder why so tight on the bottom which costs us the full view of his hands. I realise there is a distracting object that will come into frame but hopefully that could be cloned out.

5 Sep 23 Comment HI Oliver, I think this was well worth showing us. I think your choices are great and while there is an abstract element, I think the simple heron silhouette gives worthwhile focus to the image. The treatment of the water has given it a really oily feel and bringing out the color is a good move too. There is a white halo around the bird which I guess is an artefact of the processing that I would get rid of. I am saying this because I have been called out many times on letting this happen in my work. Sep 1st
5 Sep 23 Comment Wow you sure did!!! I think you have delivered the luminosity of the balloons just perfectly. I can see the issue around the blown out part of the left hand balloon but its now gone grey so I would suggest you either leave it as it is (I think its fine as is) or use Selective Color in Photoshop on the whites to apply some yellow (this is a good trick for getting rid of blown out areas). 5 Sep 23 Comment Hi David. I like the image and what you have done with it. Endorse not cloning out the riders behind because its a race and they tell a good story of a close race, but I thought they are quite sharp and feel that it could be worth while applying some blur especially over the parts that are high contrast such as the white lines. And I did notice a cloning artefact on the lefthand side near the front rider's helmet where the kicked up dirt seems to form a line that is not in the original. These are quite minor things. Sep 1st
5 Sep 23 Comment Hi Barbara, I love this and the edits you have done really develop it very well. I think that somehow you have brought out a luminosity in the creature that bring us in. One thing I found fascinating was there are no cues for scale in the image. For some reason I think of it being quite small, like a juvenile but not sure why. There is nothing to validate that. This is another enchanting aspect of the image. I am not seeing anything I could propose to improve it so not making any suggestions as to edits. I am in the camp of intuitively reading left to right (I suppose that is how we are educated) so agree with the flip. Sep 1st
5 Sep 23 Reply Hi David yes I think they are good suggestions. Pity I didn't frame the shot along those lines. At the time, I don't think I recognized the light on the fence and how it makes a good leading line Sep 1st
