Our tour guide did that for each person with a camera. I grabbed two shots when my turn came but I'm not all that happy with what I took. I got so many other images that it's not a big deal missing this one. |

It is a most interesting image. I get a real sense of the vastness of the scene just by looking at the bottom half of the image. The line of trees against the sky is very well done. Add in the stars and the image goes up to a whole new level.
Wonderful composition and colours. Also, excellent transition from the earth scene to the starry night with the stars becoming fully visible as you rise to the top of the image.
This image is very different from your usual, excellent, story-telling photos. I like this a lot. |

The sun glow on the lady's upper legs is a wonderful shade.
Her stance, with her left foot turned inward a bit looks a little awkward and I get a feeling of her being unsure of something. Could be just my imagination, but then, isn't that what photographs are about - what we see and imagine from the photo.
I don't think I've ever seen this sort of portrait composition (just a pair of legs) before and it certainly has me pondering it. Well done! |

I would love to see this image as shot in colour. The mono works but I think a colour version with muted desaturated colours might also give a pensive feel.
I don't see any visual clues that would make me realize this is a Jewish cemetery (maybe I'm missing the clues???). If part of your story is the Jewishness of the cemetery then a symbol (if one was there) would help in understanding.
I think this would have been one of those special moments with a camera. Nicely done! |

Yes, it is definitely good enough to be in the competition. As Prasad said, it is nicely composed with good negative space on the right, there is human interest with the man at the front and I think the fog makes this image perfect as it really focusses your eyes on the subject.
Hope it does well. |

We just missed each other. My wife and I vistetd Moab and the Arches National Park near the end of March. The landscape is so amazing and your image is a great example of the scenery.
I also had a very hard time with processing my images. The sky was awful (ended up replacing the sky in the images I really liked) and the light was at the same time, harsh. I probably redid my "keeper" images at least 4 times before I got results that I was happy with.
You appear to be facing into the sun which is always challenging.
I took a crack at your image (see my VF). Mainly I did a slight Dehaze in ACR, then also in ACR I selected the main rocks seen on the left side through the arch and did a tad more Dehaze and then adjusted the lighting. The effects in my VF are a bit rough but working with an 8 bit JPF file is harder than with a raw file.
The orange glow on the upper side of the arch is really nice, and I really like your composition. Your image reminds me of our trip - thank you! |

What a great shot! I can almost hear the female saying "feed me".
I think your shutter speed could have been a bit faster, maybe upwards of 800 to 1,000. The female's right wing is a blur as part of her left wing. Likewise, the male's left leg is a bit blurry.
You might have to bump your ISO with a faster shutter speed but I bet your Sony would still give you very good results and if there is any noise, then getting rid of it is not hard.
Lovely colours and great composition. Well done! |
