Thanks Darcy. I like the idea of cropping it smaller while maintaining the square format.

Hi Syed. This is an amazing capture of a very dramatic weather situation, especially the foreboding shadow under the clouds. I'm not sure I'd want to be out in a helicopter on such a day. I think the darkening of the forground was a good decision and leads the viewer to the fantastic cloud formation. Knowing that the spots in the water are actually boats allows me to fully appreciate the scale of the cloud formation, but I think I would remove them just because they do look like dirt spots. My only other suggestion would be to try lowering the esposure of the extremely bright background clouds in the upper left so that the viewer's eye is not drawn primarily to that spot. This would be a wonderful as a large metal print! |

This image tells a great story and your post-processsing has done an excellent job of refining the light on the subject and isolating her from the background. I agree that there seems to be a blue tint on her legs, and I think that retoning that area would be an improvement. I think your idea of eliminating the writing on the book cover was a good choice, but, if it were my image, I would probably tone down the red color of the book a bit to take less attention away from the model's face. Overall, I find this image very interesting and pleasing to view. Thanks! |

I like the colors and the composition you have chosen for the final image. The inner glow of the main bloom is also interesting and you have done a good job of separating the flowers from the background. I'm impressed with your use of focus stacking, which I always find intimidating as a technique. The front petal of the main bloom seems soft to me, though, even with the focus stacking. |

This is a very peaceful and beautiful scene. Your exposure and focus are perfect, and the ripples in the water lead the eye back and to the right, making the viewer wonder what's just around the corner behind the hills. I think Tom's suggestion is worth trying because the central peak does have the most detail and captures the light well. A couple of figures in a red kayak might also help to create a more interesting story! |

What an interesting alley and your composition definitely captures the mood and hectic atmosphere of the location. I think the Tom's suggested edit does bring more attention of the jumble of the wiring and superstructure. However, I also think the murals on in the front left are interesting and your original shows them off nicely.I definitely agree that taken the figure out was the correct decision. I would love to have a couple of hours in this space to thoroughly explore all of the image possibilities that it presents! |

Thanks, Shirley. It seems to be unanimous that the image needs to be cropped, but I'm also happier with the green background which is representative of the garden around the lily. |

Thanks, David. No, I did not use focus bracketing, just a very fast shutter speed. |

I love dreamy images and you have captured just enough detail in the featured blooms to give them substance. I think your composite works well from a composition standpoint, and I would never have guessed it to be a composite if you hadn't pointed it out. I agree that darkening the upper portion of the background is beneficial. |

This is a beautiful flower and your awards are impressive! It's hard to believe how tiny it actually is. However, I think that Linda's suggested edit is definitely an improvement, mainly because it eliminates the petal touching the edge of the frame and darkens the background. |

This dahlia is simply beautiful and you have done an excellent job of bringing out its detail and gorgeous color. I definitely like your choice of a black background to put the complete emphasis on the bloom. I agree that a little more room around the flower is an improvement. Flipping the image was also an excellent idea making the dahlia facing forward, an idea that seldom occurs to me but which is definitely effective. |

These are lovely water lilies and you have done an excellent job of capturing their beauty. Your crop certainly adds to the success of the image and your post processing really brings out the interior glow of the blooms. I especially like the reflection under the flowers and the bug adds interest and makes the scene come alive. |

The contrast of the flower color against the green background really adds to the success of this image. I also agree that the cropping decision was important to show off the subject, but my preference would be to have the flower in the lower right as opposed to the upper left. I think that a vignette would also bring the viewer's eye to the flower. You were able to capture this bloom at the height of its beauty.
