Hi Kamal. This is an excellent image. The three separate open windows with passengers in deep thought is a very effective composition. The fact that the two outer passengers are facing in the middle with the middle subject almost facing center adds significantly to the success of this image. I think the black and white treatment adds to the simplicity and impact of the The red on each of the subjects' clothing contrasts well with the train's color, which is big "plus" in my view. Thanks so letting us experience this great scene!

I think this image is very successful. You mentioned that you think the model's pose is unnatural, but it works well for me and I think the direct eye contact with the viewer is important to the success of this image. I love the door in the background and would enjoy having the opportunity to do a photographic study of the door on its own. You might try cloning out the two round door elements at the top which lead the eye out of the frame, and I agree that it would be helpful to create just a little bit of additional room below the subject's foot on the edge of the frame. But overall, this is an effective fashion image and I congratulate you. Ingrid |

Hi Tom. I am very impressed by your post processing. You have created a very dramatic and compelling scene out of a well exposed but mostly documentary image. The monochrome an excellent choice and your added "steam" is very realistic. Great job, and thanks for sharing. Out of curiosity, can you share which brushes you used for the steam? Thanks, Ingrid |

Hi Greg. I love the contrasting colors in this image and the vantage point you have selected. Adding the framing with a composite was an excellent idea and you have executed the compositing very well. I agree that image could be improved by a sharper mid-ground, but it is a great image in any case. Thanks for sharing! Ingrid |

Hi Darcy. I like this image very much. I think the composition is very successful and keeps the eye moving around the frame to settle back on the main jellyfish. The separation of the main subject at its bottom is especially helpful. Since blue is my favorite color, I find the overall impression created by this image very calming and enjoyable. I don't have any suggestions for improvement, since it is great just as it is! |

Hi Karen. Overall, I think that this is an excellent image and a great portrait. In my opinion, you have accomplished your goals and used depth of field very successfully. I like Greg's suggestions as well, but feel that your portrait was a great image before the adjustments he suggested. Thanks for sharing! |

Thanks, Syed! Although they are still "restoring" this Penitentiary, I surely hope they don't eliminate any of the fine decaying textures. :) |

Thanks, Darcy. The workshop was actually a flower photography workshop, mainly at the Longwood Gardens outside of Philadelphia. The Penitentiary outing was just one day and I'm so glad they included it, even though many of the othere participants were grumbling about taking the detour away from gardens. In post processing, I mostly worked with the lighting, reducing bright spots that were distracting and using a vignette to put the emphasis on the chair. |

Thanks, Karen. Coincidently, we had Abandoned as the assigned subject in our January Camera Club meeting, and this is the image I submitted. It was taken 6 years ago, but the Abandoned subject made me revisit all of the images I captured at the Penitentiary. |
