I think the conversion to mono has worked really well - the detail is super on the lion. The only part I found distracting was the rock edge going diagonally up on the right, but there's not a lot you could do about it. The sharpness of the mane gives him a very bad hair day! Would it do well in comps? Probably better in USA than GB. It is too obviously a zoo shot because of the lack of background. However, having seen a friend's safari shots from S Africa, I'm now less concerned about lions in long grass in a zoo. The latter are usually better because you are able to get closer. |

I was using my Leica DG 100-400 F4 lens. The settings were ISO 320, F7, 1/320s and it was at 250mm. I used the higher ISO to give me a faster speed since I have tremor and I also used a monopod. It's a lovely crisp lens but quite heavy despite being made for the Olympus cameras. |

Yes I can lighten just the eyes if you think it is better. I agree it would be better with the whole flag, but if you'd seen how difficult it was to isolate a single person, when there were so many people standing all round me and I couldn't easily change lenses. I was stuck with my very long lens attached to a mono pod for stability and trying to make sure no-one stuck an arm out in front of me, or waved a flag. The barges were moving quite fast along the canal as well sometimes and the performers were all moving and turning to face the viewers on both sides of the canal, so it was all a bit hectic. |

I think I agree. The day was so colourful, but I needed a mono image and I have seen lots of street photos turned to mono which did work well. Is this just not suitable because it is Gay Pride and therefore designed to be OTT? |
