I haven't tried googling the problem but I will do. The other thing I could do with the framing issue is to transplant the trees further in to the picture- probably quite easy because there is so much foliage lower down to mask the moved edges.
I've only recently got a phone and its not an iphone but a Sony and wasn't bought with photo taking in mind. I was very happy with my small Nokia but eventually decided it didn't do what I wanted, so I bought the same as my son so when I couldn't understand how it worked, he could tell me! I'm very clever when I need help with technology -ask the son! |

I've used the same technique but it only works sometimes and usually that is when there is a distinct feature with good edges. It picks up the building beautifully but the lack of hard edges in the sky means that ends up blank and that's a large area in the frame. That's why I added the texture, which sort of had an emphasis on edges so looked as if it belonged. |

Yes, maybe the arrangement could have been organised differently. The right hand SOM one could have been pushed back to match the lefthand RS one+ to give symmetry. |

I felt that the colour version was better than the mono. The elk doesn't stand out as well in mono. I agree that the grass in the foreground is too dominant and I was also distracted by the light catching branches in the back ground. Somehow in the colour they are not as eye catching. He is a magnificent animal and looks very much as if he owns the forest. He has seen you and is not at all bothered! |

I'm afraid I prefer the original colour image because it has some interest in the sky which has vanished in the two filtered versions. The lighthouse looks as if it is tilted towards the right-is this an optical illusion? The foliage in front is very busy in all of them. I wondered whether you could use a texture layer and a different blending mode to put something into the sky? I have been doing quite a lot of this technique and it can be very effective and is relatively easy. I tried it to see if it might work- a piece of bark, changed to mono, then placed above the lighthouse, used blending mode of darken with an opacity of 45% and then selected the house and light and used a mask. The I used a brush to remove the texture over the buildings so it showed only on the sky. Because the texture was a larger size than the light, I could move the image round so that best bit showed in the sky. It took about 5 minutes and I'm sure you could find a better texture and spend a bit longer to get a good effect! |

I know you like the Jumbles pictures and it's not so long ago that you showed some of them here. I find this one a bit too busy. I agree with Wes that you need to crop the bottom layer off, but I still found the complexity too much. I cropped the bottom and top shelves and left a long thin version with two prominent bottles on each side. however, the words drew my eyes away from the SOM ones, so then I went for another crop, leaving just 4 bottles. I think it needs some clever title. I appreciate that it is important to you with the SOMM but it means nothing to anyone else. Would the arrangement have worked better if the bottles had all been in a straight row rather than some pushed back? I'm not sure myself. If you are happy then that is all that matters. I'm sorry the brand didn't sell well in USA. |

I think you've got a good bird on a stuck image. Yes, there are judges who discount these because they don't have enough action or storytelling about them, which annoys me because birds do perch on sticks exactly like this. The plumage is well rendered and the pose is good- it shows off the plumage and the shape of the beak etc. I think the background is OK for tone but maybe it has actually lost too much variation because it is so far out of focus. I think it would be OK in Nature but probably not score very highly unless you have proper Nature judges, which means you have to study who is judging beforehand. I don't see why it would not be fine for Open Mono - judges don't throw them out just because they wonder why it isn't in Nature. If I see one like this, I assume that cloning or removal of twigs may have meant it couldn't go in Nature. I would try it out in Nature first. |

I left it on because of the taller tree there which I thought helped to frame it, though I agree the skiers could be closer to the right side. |

Yes I was quite pleased that the snow looked good. However I can't enlarge it like the photos on the Ixus would let me. |

Yes, it is aerobic in the extreme. The first time I did it, I discovered that even my hands ached from their unusual use. We do take it at our own pace and don't get upset when people overtake us. It is perfect for me as sliding skis is easy whereas walking requires lifting legs which is hard for me. |
