I have lots of months like that-I thought I was the only one! I could easily upload colour pictures but mono ones take longer. |

I like the black background version a lot. It makes the giraffe stand out much better. Obviously I hate the writing on the original! Other peoples' humour rarely fits with everyone! I thought Don's version was horribly oversharpened so I wouldn't go there. Tom's version with the darker background is fine. It all depends on what you are intending to use it for. |

I agree with the suggestion to remove the window frame on the left. I thought the feathers above his face are the lightest part of the head dress so they do take the eye, but I liked the detail there so my suggestion is to lighten the face a bit. I accept that he had a darker skin tone but you are allowed to alter the truth of the picture! I think the crop is good- you've eliminated the distracting things below and to the left. I thin you could darken the top right area behind the feathers and remove the fussiness in the top left corner- maybe just creating a very slight vignette would do this. |

I like the colour version a lot- that rich glow is lovely. I wondered about cropping the left of the main column in the mono, because it felt it detracted a bit from the main corridor. It didn't seem to be so much of a problem in the colour for some reason. |

Great picture! I am so jealous of your travels to get this sort of wildlife picture. Were there other bears trying to take the salmon away from him? He looks as if he's running from something. I thought there were always so many salmon - as well as bears- that there were plenty for all of them. How many other photographers were there with you? |

I tried all sorts of variations -cropping down to three, cloning out to leave three and in the end, I decided five was much the best. Then I had a go at increasing the contrast of the sky and leaving the birds as they are and that just meant they didn't stand out as well. I also tried altering the cloud base so it looked more dominant and that took the focus away from the birds. I think my ultimate thoughts were to leave well alone. Maybe cranes flying just are meant to look like this! My final thought was that you could go for a very high key soft look with no detail in the background sky at all. |

I agree -the image is super. I really approve of the starkness and I actually like the lamp in the bottom window as I think it balances the lights of the hotel. I like the diagonal of the sign. |

The problem is usually that they move so fast whether in or out of the water. In a zoo/safari park, there is a chance of good photos as they sometimes are intrigued by what they can see -small children or maybe the keeper with food. The problem then is that there are always too many people around, so it is very much the luck of the draw. When they are in the water, you can only see their faces. |

Now a wild one I would love to see. We have friends who go to Scotland and they find wild ones there, but I've never seen them. This one is beautiful. |

OK thanks. I'm aware that Americans are happy with animal portraits which feature the animals big in the frame but this is not liked in European competitions, so maybe I have to choose where I enter it very carefully. |
