I have been trawling through the creative groups to see what people come up with and I really like this. Yes, it's cute and chocolate boxy, but it is still very good. You've done a good job with the whiskers and I like the way the ears fade out into the blue/green mist. The flowers along the bottom are an inspired choice! Congratulations! I agree with Mike about the catchlights. |

I hadn't thought of this as a nature image. I've done too much tweaking for me to enter in Nature. I wanted a pictorial image so removing the stake isn't a problem at all. What is worrying is how different monitors show it. Maybe this is why pictures I think are really good don't even get accepted in Internationals! |

Yes, your droughts are on a scale we can't imagine in GB. We have a week of no rain and it is a severe drought! Two weeks and we have hosepipe bans. I couldn't live where it doesn't rain frequently! |

We don't usually get forest fires here. When we have fires it is because some idiot has started it either intentionally or because they had a barbeque or something and it is usually a moorland fire -gorse and heather and then the peat burns underground for ages. Very destructive. We are getting more high temperature years with too little rain and some people don't seem to appreciate the fire hazard. There are fewer people who smoke nowadays so that is good because there are fewer chances for accidental fires. |

We don't normally get aspens here or sequoia so to see them is a treat for me. We have some ancient oak woodlands but we are constantly in fear of some developer getting their hands on them for new house building, despite being protected. We also have ancient yews -usually in church graveyards and they are protected. Our other woodlands tend to be walked through a lot so they aren't as wild as one imagines. |

Well, moody is what I was aiming for! Perhaps showing the colour was the wrong thing to do because it made several people think wandering through the sunlit glade was the gentle mood, whereas I wanted to create a darker emotion. Just shows what a bit of post processing can actually do. Maybe I need to go further to make it threatening! |

I can see the detail in the tree trunk on my monitor so maybe mine is set lighter. |

It was actually a lovely wander through place. Unfortunately there's not usually enough time on any of the PSA conference trips to sit and contemplate. It is necessary to rush through the venue so as not to miss anything. We often redo the trips later on, to give ourselves time to take the photos and meander round to get all the various photo opportunities. |

Yes it has made it an abstract spider like shape rather than a plant growing on a tree. So very interesting. |

Gosh! You don't usually say that about my pictures. I actually liked the detail which remained in the central area even though the tree trunks were quite dark. |

This works both in colour and in mono. It would make a good Christmas card for next year. There's even a space for seasonal words bottom right. You could play with the colours -make the tree lights red? We have a lot of Christmas light even in our small town, paid for by the residents who donate money, and the business owners as well. We have gradually been increasing the number of lights, all along the main road so it looks fabulous. I keep meaning to go out and take some photos and every year I suddenly realise it has ended. So lazy of me! |

I don't think it is overdone at all. In fact, you should know by now that I would go even further with the contrast to get the black much darker especially on the sky. The overall image looks a bit grey to me. I did have a go, putting the original into silver efex wet rocks. I used control points to increase the sky contrast and then reduced the effect on the side of the barn. I tried reducing the grain in the sky but it still looks too grainy to me.
I agree with Stephen, that the mono version is preferable to the colour which just looks a bit ordinary. |

The choice of long exposure has allowed some hints of the far shore to begin to appear. The clouds also show some movement. I like the Bullock print and I think it shows more partly because the moon looks to be behind a thin layer of high cirrus clous which gives a blurring effect, reduces the highlights and allows a longer exposure to bring out the details in the foreground. I suspect you need to wait for similar conditions. The Sbends of the shoreline are a wonderful lead-in to the moonlight. You'll just have to go scouting for a similar sea area so when the cloud conditions are right and the moon is coming up, you can zoom off to it and get your photo. Planning needed! |

As I said in my email to you, I took pictures of sky plants when we visited Florida and I've tried them in competitions, but they get rejected every time. However, taking the edge of the tree and putting the plant against the sky might be the answer. I really like the texture which has come out on the leaves. However, there is one leaf which goes up and out of the frame which I would clone out altogether. Also I don't quite know why there is a sort of grey vignette around the edges. Was it where you were trying to eliminate the distractions in the sky and the horizon. I think you need to remove the grey pattern and leave the background as an offwhite all-over blank area. |

I'm surprised Donny was happy to look at the light-cats' normal behaviour is either to look away or close their eyes. I'm a cat lover so I think he is beautiful and well worth taking lots of photos. I also like the negative space and this is an example of where a white line round the image would spoil it. Giving lots of black over to the left is good.
Give him a stroke from me for being a wonderful model! |

Thanks. I debated cropping the right but couldn't make my mind up. I also wondered if I should either darken or crop middle top left where there is a bright triangular area of sunlight. It catches my eye now I've seen it ans annoys me. |
