Group Round C/R Comment Date Image
4 Mar 22 Comment Wow! Why haven't we seen this image in our club before? It is very well done and I'm intrigued as to how you altered the spider's web to get the background -which distortion filter did you use? can you also tell me how you did a black layer to fill in? Did you mask or use an eraser or levels of opacity to bring the helmet through? Minor suggestion-did you think of adding red eyes to the eye sockets? I am unhappy with the vertical line on the RH one. It is still a powerful image. Mar 14th

18 Mar 22 Reply Good luck in the new group! Mar 18th
18 Mar 22 Comment I was interested in the creative groups to give myself some idea of what other people consider to be creative. This one I like a lot-the woman looks as if she is trying to escape the bubble while the outsiders are worshipping her! Don't worry -I have an active imagination! The addition of the climbing plant has created a wonderful texture. Would it help to darken the base a little to reduce the highlight on the flat surface of the float? Mar 17th

32 Mar 22 Reply No I assure you there is no bison there. I should have said as well that the spikes are actually the pointed feet of a model who does pole dancing. She was wearing ballet shoes and sat down and pointed her feet. I just extracted the bit I wanted. I can understand your dislike of covid but most photographers seem to be concentrating on portraits of people wearing masks. I was actually just thinking about a space photo and the virus seemed to fit in well as an approaching asteroid and then someone said it looked like covid which is where it started from so it became a threat from space. My mind obviously got mixed up! The question really is whether it works as a photo. Mar 18th
32 Mar 22 Comment I still don't fancy meeting a longhorn if I was out on a walk! Any sort of cattle can have a bad day. Mar 17th
32 Mar 22 Comment I like what Jennifer has done -the brightness helps. The sky also has more interest because of the increased contrast. However I would darken the grass in the foreground on her version. Mar 17th
32 Mar 22 Reply Agree -they don't look like planets -more like asteroids. Things that in science fiction would be being mined for their very important minerals etc. I like scifi so my mind does tend that way. Mar 8th
32 Mar 22 Comment I'm sorry if I got them wrong-it was quite hard to get the images even to download properly so I did get them mixed up. I feel sorry for the Longhorn. Fancy having to carry all that wide weight around all the time-you'd always be banging fences and gates with the ends of your horns! I've never heard of the song so I needed the explanation given by Wes, but I do like the final image with the music behind it. However, have you used a longhorn because they are farmed/live in Texas or does the song refer to them? It probably makes more sense to a Texan than to a Brit. I can see why you've used a white vignette effect to separate the animal from the surroundings but I wonder whether this has gone a bit too far. You need the space for the words but it means there is a large area of white all around the animal. Incidentally are they gentle giants or dangerous and illtempered beasts? Mar 8th
32 Mar 22 Comment It does look as if the steeple and its supporting brickwork could collapse at any time. Definitely not a building to try to get into or even very close to. However, I would have been walking all round looking for angles and other bits to take. Even just a single window could look super. I think the contrast needs increasing as the image is overall rather all of one tone-probably because it is dark red. Try increasing the contrast on the brickwork so see if you can make it brighter looking. Mar 8th
32 Mar 22 Comment I've used paper for macro work but not - as yet- toilet paper insides. I thought the end product looked like a brain scan rather than making me think about waste etc. So, why not develop that as a theme and put something in the background to suggest a human body or skeleton? As it is, the background is too stark white and needs something, though not too much to take the eye away from the patterns. You did a good extraction from the original beige background and removal of the shadow, but now I think this is a work in progress and needs more 'playing'! Mar 8th
32 Mar 22 Comment I agree again with what's been said. I like both the colour and the mono and the vignetted mono is better than your original. It has more contrast as a result of the darker corners. The slant is a bit different but one's brain soon accepts it. Well done! Mar 8th
32 Mar 22 Comment I think both Steve and Wes have improved the look immensely just by increasing the contrast. I would also crop off the white line in the sky which wobbles up to the frame edge and then away. there is a second lower line which would be harder to remove but again it would be better without it. You've introduced a slight curve to the horizon by using the 24mm lens so maybe this actually needs straightening. When we visited, it was mid Summer many years ago and the middle of the day -so not photographable. I was quite disappointed as the Canyon was just too vast to get anything decent. I think snow would help to provide separation. Mar 8th
32 Mar 22 Comment I also agree with Stephen' suggestion. The brightness doesn't seem so bad in the colour but in the mono, the arm takes the attention away from the face. It is a nice pose for a young girl. You could try having her turned slightly more towards the camera so her arm isn't so large a part of the picture. Somehow you need to make the face and hair the most important part. I'm not a people photographer so I'm impressed by anyone who can do this well. Mar 8th
32 Mar 22 Reply But they all started out as straight photos. The 'planets' are soap bubbles taken close up, the ogre was a statue outside a Comicon conference centre in America. All I've done is 'play' with them in Ps. Mar 8th
32 Mar 22 Comment I noticed that I said I tried with marbles and I did, but it didn't work so they came out and my original construct went back in in the central position. if you look hard you can see the ogre. I've turned it round on the others so he doesn't show so much and changed the centre of the circle so they look a bit different. Mar 7th
32 Mar 22 Reply We aim to please! You could also point out your own judging. Mar 7th

34 Mar 22 Reply No I hadn't looked at the course -I usually use Youtube videos when I realise I need a specific skill to tell me how to do something or a way of altering a picture. I have a creative image this month in my group. I will look at the PSA course. Does one get to choose one's instructor? I live in UK and have some images from Whitby! Mar 17th
34 Mar 22 Comment I really like the latest version with partial colour but mostly a stark, mono image. It's one I would have on my wall too. Can I ask for clarification here, please? You say you used distort/spherize but also altered the spacing and size of the birds. Was this done with transform and did you remove some of the birds as well or did the distort do it for you? In the colour version, I liked the extra that Steve added in the sky. I do play with creative images but they often end up with me being the only person who likes them! Mar 17th
34 Mar 22 Comment My mind assumed this was a progressive concept -the old time sailor happy with his pirating ways but the other two heads showing what will eventually happen to him -first a corpse with pale, clammy skin and finally a skeleton! Is this not what you were after? I am impressed with your Ps skills. I try 'playing' with such creative images but my ability to use Ps lets me down. Imagination plus skill is needed for creativity. I do really like this production! Mar 17th
