I love it Ian! The blending of the trees, leaves etc works fine. My only complaint isn't the clothes which don't show but the necklace. I'm sure you could easily remove it. I like the way she appears to be eyeing the leaves hanging in front of her face. Very brave of you to ask an unknown person if you can take her photo! |

The addition of clouds changed the feel completely! Both colour and mono looked so much better to me. A new sky also meant that the foliage could go without doubt. |

Its a shame they can't be used to house homeless people as presumably they are still connected to water supplies if nothing else. Surely a building with a roof is preferable to a tent on a pavement. Or could they be upgraded somehow and used for immigrants desperate for shelter. I suspect they aren't anywhere where they would be useful nowadays because the economy of the area has disappeared but they are being wasted. Or do I have too simplistic a view of the housing market and immigration problems? |

Only if you have a smart phone-my mobile is a down to earth emergency only variety which isn't smart at all and people laugh at! |

Perhaps the answer is to make sure that you don't use it in American exhibitions where everyone knows where the tripod holes are located. Use it in foreign salons with non American judges and it could do very well. |

I think there are endless opportunities for tweaking this image- adding more seeds artfully arranged, or removing them from the stalk: angling the magnifier, increasing the depth of the stacking: using a different angle of illumination: darkening the background even more. I can really see all sorts of possible changes but again I want to emphasise what a good idea it is! |

The darkness is Ok on my monitor. I haven't tried it in PT because I rarely enter them now. The question is whether it is sufficiently iconic. Would judges accept it as a recognisable place or could it be anywhere in the world? I have just had it accepted in a Romanian exhibition in open mono -the first time I tried it out -so I may stick with that category. |

That all depends on what you want it for. If it is for competitions then Kym's square is probably better. If it is for your walls then whatever you like is better. |

It depends on what software you use. I have Nik which has a denoise option as does Topaz. I use the new Ps update which has a denoise slider as well so there are many ways of reducing the effect. Yes noise is like what happened when you used a fast film and ended up with unwanted texture which showed up in skies. Using a high ISO produces the same digitally but there are lots of programmes available to diminish the effect. |

But that would still leave one of the new edifices. I was trying to incorporate both old and new. A lot of Liverpudlians are very happy with the new developments as they bring money to the area -lots of tourists for the Beatles Museum and the Slave trade museum etc and then there are restaurants and souvenir shops. We also have a Tate Modern as well as the facades of the old warehouses so much of it still looks historically old as it is only the insides which have been modernised. This is very expensive real estate! |

I agree with Kym -centreing the shell and giving a tight square crop makes this look better. I wasn't sure about the light edges, because they drew the eye upwards and out of the frame. Could you either make the whole outer circle bright or darken it down so the eye is made to go towards the centre point-and you are right-the centre does look as if it is receding. Did you crop the left side and the bottom deliberately because that was where you could see something holding the shell? A very attractive pattern has been produced. |

But these look to have been beautiful houses. As I said -such a shame. |

What a shame-a lovely old house just allowed to go to rack and ruin. Why has the population decreased so much? |

I actually like the way you framed the top of the steeple with the branches. I suspect that Texas doesn't often have the kind of clouds we get in GB which add so much interest to skies. However, dominant clouds would detract from the church. This is pure record but not very pictorial! |

I also like the mystery of this doorway. Why was the building abandoned? How long ago?
I would be tempted to increase the contrast on the foliage to make it stand out more-or increase the structure in Nik. Sepia can often reduce the contrast and needs to be popped back selectively across the image.
I would have been beside you taking this photo too. |

What is amazing is the sheer number of deaths represented by this field of flags. It really brings home the concept of a pandemic and this is just one -admittedly large-country. I must admit I did notice the noise . Did you try removing it on your computer? |

I like this a lot. I hardly noticed the contrails so don't worry about them. I also think you've got the river just right. However I would increase the contrast using curves, on the cliff and the trees in front of it. I don't object to the border but many judges dislike such thick bands, so I suggest cropping it off altogether. If you want a border, go for a 2 pixel one. |

What a clever idea! I shall have to copy this idea for future pictures if you don't object.
I agree that using more images would make it even better. I use stacking a lot with my macro shots -and use a tripod. The only problem is making sure the subject is included within the reduced frame size. My Olympus allows focus stacking in camera so doesn't need Helicon focus any more, which I used to use. |

Thanks. I prefer the mono of this area. There are a lot of people who object to the modern buildings in an old area. Liverpool lost it's Unesco status because of new developments. |
