Now that is a different one from the usual of that lighthouse-and that's down to the orange glow. Good one, Ian! |

Good one Ian. The hand does stand out better than the gun -that comment is right, but it is hard not to get a good picture of Graham. |

The model was one of the models provided for the last PSA conference and did a camouflage face paint at one point and few people were interested so I got several pictures. I asked him to make a grimace and this just seemed to fit the concept of a virus attack. |

I have produced a virus and a finished photo to go with it but it is colour not mono and wouldn't look right as a mono, so what do you think of this? |

I can't think of a way to create a good looking virus yet but I'm working on it. |

Go for mirrorless- so much lighter and with more gimmicks which can actually be quite useful! |

No, start using it-life becomes so much easier once you've cracked the menu idea.
Try some macro work -its actually very interesting even if it isn't as easy as expected. |

Gosh 100 miles would be super! We also have penalties if caught going beyond for no good reason and even with what might seem good, the authorities probably wouldn't agree, so no visiting friends or relatives at a distance. Our son lives 2 miles away and we can only just go for a walk with him locally and keeping 2 m apart. |

I have focus stacking in camera -an Olympus- and that works very well -better than Ps or Helicon focus which I used in the past. |

I agree that the stem is much better in your image. I didn't like it coming from the corner partly because it has made it very long so it does seem to draw the eye away from the flowers. Your treatment of the blossoms has enhanced them beautifully so the velvety nature comes across well. I like the black background for the prints and I am happy with the thick white border but for a digital file, then maybe it could be reduced to a couple of pixels. Stacking is a wonderful invention except that afterwards I have to trawl through lots of useless images until I find the final Jpg one and I can then delete the rest. It's no good doing a sort for all JPGs and deleting all, because sometimes I have other photos on a card.
You must tell me how to keep orchids flowering because the one I inherited from my sister has resolutely refused to flower again. |

I'm not a fan of infra red. The foliage comes across well next to the chapel but I think the grass has gone a bit muddy looking. Looking back at the mono you entered before, I think I prefer it as it looks crisper. |

I like both the colourful version and the mono. If you were doing a talk on Vietnam, then the colour is so unusual that i would use it rather than the mono.
I tried various alterations to see if I could get the three sunlit worshippers to stand out from the rest but I'm not sure I achieved that. I converted from the original and tweaked the colour sliders and for once the magenta had the most impact. The I used curves to increase the contrast a small amount and finally made a vignette but I thin that is actually a bit too oppressive. |

I agree that a vertical shot is better-it is simpler and makes the eye rise up the trees and appreciate the tracery of the branches. The snow doesn't look too bright on my monitor but I don't know how it would project. The rocks on the top left do detract from the other trees because their top line makes a diagonal line on the left so you look away from the ones on the left and these are the best ones. The ones on the left are more of a jumble without separate trunks standing out. So Russ' crop is a good one.
I envy you your trips to Yosemite in Winter. We are still not allowed more than 5 miles from home except for grocery shopping, so trips away from our coast are very limited. All our lakes and mountains are well outside that zone. |

I wondered whether this could be enhanced. I flipped it horizontally so the dandelion was leading from left to right. Then I used the transform tool to skew it slightly so there was a more diagonal line. Then I cropped the left nearly up to the transform edge, and filled in the top corner by cloning. That gave a nice negative space over on the right. I dodged the seeds a tiny amount on highlights and burnt the midtones very slightly so they stood out a little more. Then I softened the hard edge of the patio, by cloning with a reduced opacity and then lightened the darker areas of the patio, so there seemed to be a gradient from left to right across the whole image.
So now do you like it?
I liked the concept of a single stem on a slant and I agree that the lone seed on the edge is good. This is the sort of picture I'd take too. |

The response from the ground is actually coming from the back of a boat on the Mersey. I think I may need to brighten the boat up to make it more obvious. Yes the alien craft has the long tines for weapons.
Come on, what else do I need to do to improve it? |
