I think you are clever to do this so well! I found the overall sky area to be a bit too grey but I liked the light spilling onto the hills and the street lights. Could you darken the sky and leave the stars and comet showing? |

I agree-the coloured version is rather good! |

I also thought the dark horizon needed removing and I do think the ethereal effect is enhanced. I wondered whether the basic arrangement was the wrong way round -should the large rock be the one on the edge of frame and the smaller ones going towards the centre. Could you try rearranging in multiple different ways to see the effect. I like the reflection but again why cut them in half? Would they be better with the whole reflection? I do like the high key effect overall. |

OK I have upped the contrast a small amount as I have just entered a British comp to see how it does here. |

The crystal ball shots are very difficult to get something good. I've tried finger lights and an LED torch with coloured gels and still I'm not happy -lots of failures. |

So how many people were there in the images ? Did they just move too fast to register? Did you leave time between the shots? I'd like to do this with our main street to make it look empty but I suspect there are too many people around. At the moment there aren't many shoppers but there are still cars everywhere as no-one wants to use the buses unless they have to, so they are becoming American and driving all the time! |

I agree that the colour version is just an ordinary shot of the church, but that the mono is much better. I also think it could go a bit more contrasty but Russ' has gone too far. I had a go using Nik. First I converted to sRGB, then used High structure harsh, with the brightness at -20, the contrast at +7, the structure at +33. and this seemed to work well. The grass has texture now and the graves and church stand out well. |

I agree this is almost too complex to take in. However it is a record shot for the future, so I hope you can get back there and take more as it progresses. I would like to see it in colour so can you send one in please. I like Russ' alterations but you all know I like very contrasty images.
Steve sent the original and I have just uploaded it. |

I've been doing lots of macro work too -the latest with a crystal ball and lights but I think they will stay as colour. I like the tilted hat look of yours. You've kept the texture of the ball, which is good. OK, something for you to try -since you are working at a very high ISO, could you take a slow shutter speed shot , having twirled the ball? I feel there are possibly more opportunities for creative work here. Your original is in b&w, but did you try it in colour? What were the colours of the lights? |

Thanks. I'm not sure whether it would do anything in competitions though. American salons like animal portraits but they don't usually work well anywhere else. Is this contrasty enough? |
