There were a lot of sunrise and sunset trips. We did the same -went out another day but during the day as we were headed to Mt Rainier and then home to GB. We did take quite a lot of photos both times but they all need processing. |

Don't know if we were on the same PSA trip, but my originals look a lot like your originals. I made mine mono - see group 32- but a different colour image has done well for me in our local Photo Society. I do like what you've done. |

Yes, I know you've been visiting. I've just been far too busy so you'll notice how late I did our own group' let along have time for anyone else. I'm like you -I can't assess my own work very well. Some images I think will do well, simply bomb out and others, which I rate as also-rans do much better than expected. |

I have very similar pictures taken in Cambridge too. I like all the suggestions for the post processing. I have found the dehaze filter is very useful as long as it is used frugally! I usually start with checking there is no clipping of the whites and blacks and then move on to the darks and lights and end up with a tweak to the dehaze in that order and this seems to work for my landscapes. The I convert to mono and at that point i use the colour filters to change the dynamics. Then i go to Nik and whatever preset I use i always use control points to alter different bits of the original -darkening or lightening clouds/sky/corners/highlights etc. I quite enjoy fiddling! |

I think it does lean as they say, including the tower, so whether it is an optical illusion or an actual fact, try tilting or use skew to 'correct' it and see if it looks right. You have brought out the texture of the wall in the mono, but I still find it a bit blank. Did you take parts of the building as well, eg the top third so the tower would be emphasised? The clouds etc are very well rendered. |

I also like Jennifer's suggestion as I had thought of doing exactly that. I usually take rusty bits and pieces and have not thought of brand new ones. They create their own problems-the highlights being paramount. So well done indeed! Your pictures seem to generate a lot of interest. |

I think the things in the windows are essential parts of the image. Without them they would be black holes. I am happy with the space to the left but I actually liked it with a crop off the top. I hadn't realised when I first looked at the picture that I had accidentally got the page pulled down so I could read the info you gave so the space with the foliage at the top was not visible. When I scrolled up, I could see this extra bit and it spoiled it for me. Without it I was forced to concentrate on the building and it's wonky walls and interesting windows and door. |

I do like the concept of 'almost perfect shots' as I have masses of those after every shoot! I did an AV once about taking pictures with me as a good photographer -which I'm not- and one of the themes was birds which won't stay still long enough for me. You've cracked it here -sharp and a good pose. I think the mono is better than the colour, can you bring out more detail in the darker wing feathers underneath? |

I agree with all the comments so far. I, too, would crop the top bars. I am amazed you managed to get it so sharp at the speed you used. I can't hold at that speed. Why not go the easy way and increase the ISO. In most cameras it is fine to go up to 500 without introducing noise and that would allow a much greater speed. The mono is so much better than the colour because they are such vibrant colours. |

It always needs someone else to see the problems of one's picture. Until it was pointed out, I didn't perceive the road dividing the image into two halves. I like your crop. |

We were a bit taken aback as we've seen plenty of pictures of the Palouse and they are all gold and green and of course this was after the harvest so the fields were brown and light brown. The only colour came from the sunset. When I took the pictures my head was telling me that many of them would need to be converted to mono. |

I hadn't noticed them and I think they are so far away that it doesn't matter too much. I was just going for the patterns -the alternating dark and light. |

Weren't you lucky! Congratulations Adrian! I didn't know there were desert adapted elephants in Namibia, as usually all one sees are pictures of the desert. |
