I agree the bit of pipe needs to go but I wasn't worried about the base being chopped off, but my husband agrees with you. I am ever hopeful that judges will like my pictures but I seem to have more rejections than acceptances always. |

I like the light on the corridor, but I want to crop both sides to take out the bright highlights on the wall on the left and the slice of light to the right of the pillars. I felt it concentrated my eyes much more into the corridor then and along towards the opening at the end. It's good but could you insert a small figure at the far end? I know you were going for emptiness but sometimes a focus is good too. |

It's a problem. i think both the mono are better than the colour versions. I like the extra contrast on the final one you put up but the highlights in the sky amongst the foliage are then too eye catching. They are not quite as bad as on the image labelled original 3. Can you put a mask on the top and reduce the contrast or add a neutral density filter? Do you think the branch which is in front of the car needs to be clones out? I hardly noticed it in the colour but I think it shows up much more in mono. i also wondered about a crop off the top to remove some of the foliage. I do find my eyes wandering around the whole image, not quite knowing whether to look at the open door, or the bumper or the windscreen. have you got other images which concentrate on a smaller area of the vehicle? |

Some zoos just don't think about photographers do they! I hate it when I have to try taking through a wire fence and i can't get close enough or the animal sticks close to the fence. I also wondered whether the filter you used had created an oversharpening effect especially on the body fur and the whiskers under his chin. i suspect that judges would not give this a high score as the eyes are turned away . The background is also a bit grey all over. I felt it would have more impact if you went for a much darker tone or black. i presume you would be entering in an Open comp rather than a Nature one so you might as well go for drama. |

I think this is fantastic. I much prefer this style of portrait to the studio shots. the textures both on the face and his clothing and the surrounds all work very well together. Maybe I would darken down the shiny parts on the sleeve of his coat so they don't detract from the face. Otherwise a superb shot which ought to do well in competitions. |

Not a problem . I know you prefer straight shots. |

Sorry you don't like it! I wanted a dramatic look and I felt the straight conversion to mono was too tame, but I accept your criticism and as you can see I wondered whether it had gone OTT. OK, win some, lose some. |
