I think I'm getting the message that it isn't really good enough for competitions. Nice, pleasant picture, suitable for the wall to remind us of Italy, but not really dramatic enough for anything else. |

I think Jose and you are probably right and it's not good enough for competitions. I might try it a couple of times but not with any great hopes. |

Its amazing what one misses -I hadn't noticed the white barrier on the bridge on the right till you pointed it out. |

That is one of our problems as it does cost a lot. |

I like this a lot. The bare tree in it's surroundings is good. I wondered whether the sky needed more contrast to bring out the whites more behind the branches so they have even more separation from the background. I quite like the border but I think the white area around it is rather large -fine for a print but a bit glaring when projected perhaps. This is just the kind of picture I take.
Congratulations on the HM. I ought to find time to do some print of the month comps. |

I think this will probably do well in comps as it is very different, so as long as the judges like manipulated images, it will get high marks. That lip ring is not good even in the original and it leaves a gap in the final one where the lipstick has gone. Its interesting that the guitar bridge has as much dominance in the picture as the face does. I don't object to the smudge on the face -in fact I wondered whether it needed another smudge on the cheek bone to give more shape to the face, but it might not work. The overall effect if a caricature of a beautiful model, which is fine. Its amazing how much one can change an ordinary portrait into something weird and wonderful. |

As you say, how bad can it get?! The trouble is there are still some people who ruin their pictures by not looking at the background at all. The scaffolders had already done their bit by erecting their work around one of the turrets. Why is it that cathedrals etc always have scaffolding when one visits? There is an old gatehouse near us which had scaffolding for about 3 years which made photos impossible. I hope you got good pictures as well this time. |

I like the starkness of the trees against the wall. However, I might crop off the top layer of 'bricks' in the wall to make it even more of a letter box shape. I also decided to take off the 2 right hand trees so you are left with 5 only. It was a more satisfying shape for me. However even without knowing where it is, it is an interesting, pictorial image. |

Obviously this does not have the same emotive draw for me as it does for you, so unfortunately, I don't think it has enough to make it a compelling image. Did you take the elevator in its surroundings as well, to show the immensity of the building in a wide grain growing, flat area? They are rather ugly structures so I think for this to work as a pictorial image it probably needs a threatening , stormy sky. As it is, it is purely a record of the top of the building against a blank, blue sky. I think you can see from my comments, I am not enthusiastic about this picture! Perhaps it will mean so much more to other Americans. |

I like this one too with the girls just peeking out of the bottom of the window, especially with the smallest one barely able to see out. The texture on the window surrounds is good and the girls' eyes immediately draw the attention. I would expect this image to do well in competitions.
What are we going to do when we upgrade our computers and Nik suddenly is no longer available? |
