Hello Gaetan, the idea was to portray motion in the wings. Yes, I could have increased the shutter speed to 2500 or even 3200 which I do for BIF. But I wanted that gentle blur to give the impression that the bee is in flight. |

Hi Tom, I partly agree with you on that. For example, when I shoot macro I will often have two subjects on the opposite side of a perch doing their own thing. In fact including two such elements add to the image instead of just one subject which becomes like a portrait. So whilst I take on board what has been suggested I am not comfortable with the view point that at any one point of time only one subject can be included. If that was the case I would never be able to shoot say a flock of birds flying in a formation with sunlight reflecting off their backs. So maybe on this one we agree to disagree !!! |

Thank you Butch. Yes the single bee may be more impactful. The reason I included both was to show how the two hovered around the same bush with pollen on their legs. My question to the group now is what if the second bee was also tack sharp. I can get that if I change the metering on the camera. So the question is do all subjects in an image have to be sharp or is it ok to have one element less sharp and be included and show the prevalent ambience rather than compromising on the scene that I witnessed? |

Hi Barbara. It looks like a painting.!!!! Not sure if you would be able to reduce the saturation a bit more to make it look like a photograph. If I was not told that this was converted from a slide film or negative I would have said this is a painting. The cast in the magenta is overwhelming. |

Hi Tom. Very unusual and well spotted. Good you retained the "turtle head" Flows naturally. I like what Butch has done to the image to pump a bit more energy and light. But perhaps too tightly cropped on the left. The reflection comes out well. |
