Thank you very much Butch for your compliments and your comments. I always learn from each interaction. Also many thanks for presenting an alternative view in your image. My original thinking (and hence the choice of lens was) was that I felt that leaving any one of the structures would somehow make the image "incomplete" as it were. I wanted to give the viewers a perspective as to what is feels to stand at this grand place with nature helping me a bit. The wooden path is relatively new and whilst it leads us to the main structure, I wanted to balance the two structures on either side to complete the image. I completely understand your comments about the structures taking away "focus" from the main theme but the objective was to include both the trees and the wood if you know what I mean. I will try out the various suggestions made in the group and perhaps have 3 or 4 images with different combinations. Thank you once again. |

Thanks Tom. Purely for aesthetic reasons. I can try and crop a bit of the image from the top so that the sky does not dominate too much. |

Thank you Tom. Yes, I did think about cropping the sky a bit. Two problems. The aspect ratio of 16:9 will not be maintained and the because the structures on the left and right are so close to the border, they would get even tighter. If I reduce only the top portion of the image, I will not be able to maintain the above ratio. So I took the risk of the sky dominating the image with the other elements contributing to it. I lived with the lower compromise !!!. |

Thank you Gaetan. Much appreciated. Yes, the sky was that blue and I anticipated that comment and so mentioned it in my covering note !!! Have a good day ahead. |

Wow what a find. You are lucky Paul. I am assuming you used a macro lens because you could go so close? Even at F25 the rear part of the bird is not in sharp focus. I was wondering if you could have got a clearer picture with a normal 24-70 or 24-120 lens rather than the macro? I use the macro lens regularly and know it is excellent for macro photography. Agree with Judith on the brightness bit. Overall a very nice picture with all the right elements of nature present. |

Hey Gaetan. Like your fresh approach. But did I read your exposure time right? 20 seconds? Even at f22 and ISO 100 the image should have been a blow out. I guess the ND 1,000 did the trick. But I suspect it has over saturated the yellow in the image whilst enhancing the blue. I played around a bit with the colours to see how it would look. Let me know your thoughts.
Also your sensor has some spots which may need cleaning. Could also be the lens. |

Oh poor thing. I feel like grabbing it, wrapping it in a warm dry towel and giving it some soup....!!! You certainly captured the mood of the weather reflected on the Robin. I like the catchlight and the colours and the sharpness of the wet feathers. I note you used an aperture of f5.6. Perhaps one stop higher say f6.3 would have got the tail of the Robin in more focus. It is a bit soft you think? But I am nitpicking...Happy with the image. Thank you for sharing with us. |

Hi Barbara, you succeeded in getting a sharp image. The colours, feathers and the catch light have come out really well. I would remove the branch with the flowers in front of the bird so that the viewer's attention stays with the bird. Did a little bit of editing. Let me know if it improves or spoils the image. Thank you. |

Hi Tom, you did well by blurring the background, getting the subject in sharp focus capturing the details of the alligator to show its skin and teeth. Would I change anything? Perhaps a bit more space in front of its snout. Was there a chance of you going a little down so that the rock that is in the background would be partially hidden behind the subject? Takes away my attention from the subject. I love the moss covering the alligator. I almost reached out and patted the alligator....... !!! |
