I agree that DoF is too shallow :-( , as I was explaining to Walter when I started shooting this bird it was far enough away and broadside to me so f5.6 gave me plenty of DoF and an iso 4000 at 1/1000 sec. The problem was the bird decided to start heading my way, plus I was having too much fun to think about how shallow the DoF was getting as it got closer.
I did play with a vertical crop but finally settled on this one. I felt that the bits of debris added to the overall interest.
Thanks for you in put Bob. |

Thanks for the input Judy. I defiantly wasn't going to bed before hitting the beach LOL. |

Interesting image and a very creative prospective, I like the soft tones too. On the down side there seems to be artifacting or noise, particularly in the back ground possibly from sharpening. |

I have mixed feelings about your image. I like the subject and the mans expert handling of the net. Everything is in focus and well lit, but like the others I find the background is competing for my attention. Not sure what you could have done given the location. I would love to try my hand at casting a net like that. |

Thank you, When I got down on the beach this bird was maybe 30' away, I figured with the low light and the distance to the bird I would be ok with f5.6. @1000 sec and auto iso ( the sun was coming up and the light was changing ). But the bird started to move closer, and it never crossed my mind that as the bird got closer to me my DoF was getting shallower, by the time of this photo the DoF was maybe 6 inches deep.
Maybe next time I'll either start with a larger aperture or a shorter lens :-) maybe both LOL |
