I was a little hampered in that it was last minute, and I didn't want to pull out my tripod. I had made several efforts with a shorter lens, but the settings were bad, and I wasn't getting the results I wanted, so I got my 100-500 mm. However, I still didn't have my tripod, so I used my neighbor's mailbox, which has a pointed roof, and I rested the camera and lens there. I still had to play with the settings, and I obviously still didn't have them right, but this is the best attempt I have had. Not the best setup, but it worked in a pinch. |

Thank you for your comments and advice. I want to try shooting the eclipse in April, as I live in the direct path. Suggestions for settings? |

I like Lance's description. I didn't know the name of the tower, but I like the symmetry/angles of the foreground apartment buildings with them all being the same colors, then as you look into the background, the same basic color palette is there, but it is more muted. Some of that even continues into the sky. Nice. |

Beautiful image. The colors of the leaves and the bark are the same colors as the sparrow. He looks like he belongs there. The focus on the limb closest is the sharpest with beautiful blur in the background. Nice. |

WOW!! Steven! This is amazing! I thought when I first looked at it that it was a charcoal pencil drawing. The textures of the birds feather are visible. The bird on his arm is a little hard to find. I had to look several times, but this image keeps me coming back. You even captured the tattoo on his hand. The different hairs in his beard are also defined. I wish we could see what he is reading…the Bible, perhaps? |

I see the "people" in between the two glasses "beaming" up! This is amazing! The reflections around the bottom really catch my eye, but the upper saucer's colors are so bright. How did you get the reflection? How did you actually stage this? It is so interesting! |

You definitely created a narrative with this picture. The guys are waiting their turn, hanging out, and discussing their last ride, and thinking about the next one. I love the two children in the background, and the "mother?" over on the right, maybe yelling at the kids, or maybe ignoring them, as she is not looking at them! The colors are so bright, and the boy standing on the right is wearing a shirt whose colors match the trees and the sky! And you got the cigarette smoke, as well!! Great capture! |
