67 Aug 22 Comment The effort you put into getting the shot paid off in a great feeding pose. And relatively in focus, considering the conditions. On my monitor, the breast feathers show as exaggerated orange, without any hint of the brown tones that I associate with barn swallows.

Some strangeness: I looked at the jpg's EXIF info to see what focal length you were using (550 mm) and the EXIF settings listed in the file were different than those in the narrative. Never seen that before, bizarre.

Regarding your question about crop: if there is enough resolution to do so, I might try cropping tighter to isolate the feeding action. There's a better chance of seeing the insect in the beak (difficult to discern due to dark background colour), and tighter cropping eliminates some of the noise and out of focus bits. I'm travelling so only have basic software, but I've attached a basic recrop (without the benefit of denoise or proper sharpening) as example.

p.s. Our digital dialog group is Nature+ (plus) which explicitly allows hand of man, so am wondering why the intro referencing PSA's 'Nature' definition in the context of the barn wood being a permitted element in this instance?

67 Aug 22 Comment It would be instructive (for me at least) to see the original photo to compare B&W to colour and see why you preferred the former.

The few white poles in lower right are a tad distracting.

67 Aug 22 Comment Several eagle nests near home is -- lucky indeed. Their location in the tree doesn't offer much opportunity to isolate subjects from background.

I agree with previous suggestion about a crop adding more space in the direction of their gaze and equalizing shadows.

67 Aug 22 Comment An unusual, appealing capture, and as noted I too would invest time in removing that branch. There's some uneven blurring in the background, wondering if that's an artefact introduced in post? Aug 18th
67 Aug 22 Comment The eyes, as you point out, make the picture. The colors are appealing. Agree with previous cropping suggestions.

It would be instructive to see the original, to see how much of a salvage job was required (regardless of how much, it was worth it).
