I was asking myself exactly that question as I was typing in the settings: why F22 and ISO 1250? Light was fading and we were heading back to camp, I think I just grabbed the camera from its case as the jeep approached, with a quick shot in case the bird flew. As you say DOF would have been fine at F8 and ISO could have been lowered. Far from optimum settings, but that probably describes lots of my photos. Thanks for the feedback on the crop -- I agree, the tighter crops lose a bit of impact, like scale. |

Marina: It's nice to capture typical animal posing, as you've done here. I think the work you did in post with the background really makes the subject pop -- the color you chose complements perfectly. And I like the little bit of texture in the bkgnd.
Only thing that could improve slightly, in my opinion, is if its full leg were visible, not always possible of course (the leg its standing on).
